Let go.
Hummingbird Oct 2023
I killed a man tonight,
Witnesses by his side,
All I had to do was say the words,
Let go,

He closed his eyes to rest,
He drew his final breath,
I'm sorry but this is how it works,
Let go,

They told him not to worry,
They'll continue his story,
I told him that he'd fly with the birds,
Let go,

They told him not to worry,
He drew his final breath,
All I had to do was say the words,
Let go.

Envy
Hummingbird May 2023
I envy the breath you take,
For the air you breath,
Provides better than I can,

I envy the clothes you wear,
They cling to your form,
Embracing you the way I can’t,

I envy the person you met,
How she laughed with you,
For her and I are not the same woman.

To live among spiders.
Hummingbird May 2023
To live among spiders where webs make up paths,

Upon which I find myself tangled,

Forced to watch them roam with ease while they look upon me with judging eyes,

“A pity, such a pity.” They say as they pass,

Patronising me,

Just because my legs are accustom to simple silk,

Not emotional webbing.

Love is what you taught me.
Hummingbird May 2023
It's a shame,
That roses have thorns,
But nothing's ever easy,

We're the same,
We learn to crawl,
Before our footing's steady,

Through the pain,
We all learn,
To find the meaning of beauty,

Thus, you came,
And made me fall,
And love is what you taught me.

Breaking walls
Hummingbird May 2023
I shall place pegs between the bricks,
Keep my hammer at the ready,
For when I strike with mighty hits,
My walls shall shift unsteady,

Left in the dark for so long,
See the brightness to come,
Blinded from what's right and wrong,
Guided by the heartstrings I strum,

Make ready as they fall,
Dance to avoid the rubble,
Or be struck and forced to crawl,
Be humbled or face the trouble,

Renounce my fortress, abandon my goddess.
Though one thing stays steady, I'll remain honest.

No Vacancy
Hummingbird Mar 2023
Vacant be my heart,
Though, it seeks no vacancy,

Home.
A place you will not find.

Not with me.

Or so I tell myself.
Hummingbird Mar 2023
Drinking from a cup half full,
Or is it half empty?
Through the final straw,
Or so I tell myself,
Time and time again,

Wearing my heart on my sleeve,
Off the cuff,
Ride one's coattails,
Or so I tell myself,
Time and time again,

Like a fish out of water,
Often a red herring,
There are better fish to fry,
Or so I tell myself,
Time and time again.

Desire for a liar.
Hummingbird Oct 2022
I find myself in chaos,
A dance of ice and fire,
I know the risks and costs,
I know reality's a liar,

I'm sick of counting sheep,
They pull wool over my eyes,
At night I barely sleep,
Thinking of how I roll the dice,

I'm not sure why I write,
My words seem empty and dull,
They don't change wrong to right,
Simply chatter in the skull,

I live my life in these shoes,
They've walked a dozen miles,
But this is what I choose,
If it means I've earned your smiles,

On and on I go,
Writing what comes to mind,
This is all I've got to show,
The legacy I'll leave behind,

Look upon my endless words,
Read them untill you're numb,
I write until it starts to hurt,
Read until you realize it's dumb,

I try to push and do my best,
A slave to your desire,
The words I string at your behest,
Knowing reality's a liar.

Emotional Poker.
Hummingbird Oct 2022
Emotional dyslexia,
I can't read your face,
An ace up your sleeve.
Hummingbird Oct 2021
To a large ***, add a cup of tears,
Sprinkle in some dried sorrow,
Add a handful of joy, aged for years,
Then let rest until tomorrow,

Whisk in some passion, only a dollop,
Be careful not to over-beat,
Once dissolved, set on a hob,
Let the mixture simmer on medium heat,

Squeeze in some empathy, to add spice,
Along with a tablespoon of sugar,
The aroma should be pungent and nice,
A broth fit for couples in summer,

A dish as old as man itself, add salt to taste,
This is a dish best served warm, known as a lover’s embrace.
Hummingbird Oct 2021
It was like satin upon fingertips,
Salted caramel upon my lips,
Warm like the sun the morning after,
The drum in my chest, thumping faster,
A joy nothing in this world outstrips.

Tinted my cheeks a rosy hue,
Felt as fresh as the morning dew,
Like the strongest cup of coffee,
The rush left me feeling dizzy,
I was certain then, I knew,

She broke my walls, spawn of April,
Wandered my halls, started a fable,
She allowed me to feel again,
Freed me from this cage in my brain,
I fell in love with a fallen angel.

Wanderer's Grove.
Hummingbird Oct 2021
Bamboo reaching for the skies,
Bending in the breeze,
A need to tend in a wanderer's eyes,
Brought down to his knees,

Many stalks block out the sun,
His resolve shall not solute,
For he knows the time will come,
For shelter, the grove cannot uproot,

He needs the grove to survive,
If he is to last the summer,
They need each other to thrive,
Dependent on one another,

Oh wanderer, maintain the grove, say you will not leave,
You've found a place to love, where you shall not grieve.

Dying Rose
Hummingbird Sep 2021
There is a struggle in all of us,
Things we don't admit,
Akin to a collective curse,
Of which we all submit,

A destructive mass of thoughts,
Disguised with a smile,
Our internal turmoils fought,
Finding solace for a while,

The masks we wear get heavy,
held on by deceit,
We fancy ourselves sturdy,
But struggle on our feet,

Do not hold on to a dying rose,
Clutching thorns is what hurts us most.

The presence of you.
Hummingbird Sep 2021
Sometimes we see better,
When we turn away from sight,
Many things seem clearer,
Within the absence of light,

I close my eyes to know you better,
Reconstructing you within my mind,
Your scent, your sound, and every texture,
For the future me, it will remind,

Sleek dark brown hair matches your eyes,
Your breath which smells of golden ale,
My fingertips brush along your thighs,
Reading your goosebumps like braille,

Indeed, I may never see you again,
Still, the presence of you resides within my brain.

My sweet cigarette
Hummingbird Dec 2020
You’ve left a bitter taste in my mouth,
Your fragrance clung to my breath,
Things with you have gone south,
You’ve taken a toll on my health,

I watch embers chase white paper,
Leave blackened ash in your wake,
At times you have made things seem better,
In time you’ve become something to hate,

I’ll miss the warmth at my fingertips,
Not forget the rush you bring to my head,
Nothing but poison between my lips,
Hard not to want you before going to bed,

I loved you but I can’t live in regret,
Time to snub you out, my sweet cigarette.
(Just got out of an abusive relationship, quit smoking in the process)

Breeze in the trees.
Hummingbird Apr 2020
Withered petals,
My time has passed,
This pain is mental,
Broken glass,

Pushed to the edge,
I no longer fear,
Free me from my cage,
My end is near,

I hope it comes swiftly,
Eternal sleep,
although I’m not guilty
I silently weep,

Should my body sway from the breeze in the trees,
I’m just somebody who no one would miss.
my soul to fade, my words to keep. It’s been a fun ride, but now I sleep.

Half hearted lover.
Hummingbird Apr 2020
Your hand in mine,
Your warm embrace,
We were fine,
Those were the days,

Our love was strong,
It was evergreen,
But now it’s gone,
A distant dream.

We wake together,
In the same bed,
Staring at each other,
Is our relationship dead?

We’re always mad at one another,
Memoirs of a half hearted lover.

Poison
Hummingbird Mar 2020
Passion, the flame that eats.
Obsession, constantly fueling.
Intoxication, clouds the mind.
Satisfaction, so hard to achieve.
Obligation, the reason we wake.
Negotion, a price for everything.

Companion Lost.
Hummingbird Feb 2020
My soul be free,
One could hope,
The tallest tree,
A shorter rope,

Save the date,
A heart to mend,
A razor blade,
An unsteady hand,

Reaching out,
To those who care,
I carry my pout,
Almost everywhere,

I dream of what I miss the most,
A brother, father, and companion lost.

Two faced
Hummingbird Jan 2020
Rain hits my skin like thrown pebbles,
The wind holding my hair back,
My fingers wrapped tight at the handles,
I have estranged myself from the pack,

Looking back over my shoulder,
I can’t help but feel the tension,
I know this is the only way to be bolder,
Keep my mind focused on the mission,

To find oneself is no easy task,
We comb through success and failure,
Peeling back the layered mask,
Breaking though the barrier,

We move though light and dark phases,
Even the moon has two faces.

Azazel's Candle
Hummingbird Nov 2019
They've sent me to the devil,
I've come to know his ways,
I've come to know the evil,
It's haunted my nights and days,

Though, is it truly his fault?
For what I have come to do,
This could all be for naught,
The things I've done to you,

I've pinned it on Abbadon,
Avoiding the guilt I feel,
The reason that you're gone,
A product of my free will,

There's no one but me to blame,
You're my candle, I've snuffed the flame.

Holding raindrops
Hummingbird Nov 2019
To catch the raindrops,
I cup my hands,
Only to watch as it overflows,

There's only so much,
I can contain,
Within the hands, I've cupped,

How long can I hold?
my cupped hands,
In time I'll grow tired and weak,

Letting go, inevitable,
time will tell,
trickle free, from my cupped hands.

Mirror
Hummingbird Oct 2019
Cold against my skin,
Smooth to the touch,
I seek what's within,
I wonder what I'll catch,

The orbs beneath my brows,
Staring right back at me,
The whys, whens, and hows,
what was it I failed to see?

This is who I truly am,
This thing that's reflected,
This thing I've become, ****,
That of which I'm fixated,

Could my existence be an error?
Answer me, show me, please mirror.

Our Ship on the ocean.
Hummingbird Oct 2019
Life is like an unpredictable ocean,
We travel through it on many ships,
The waves can flow with violent motion,
Sometimes the water calmly sleeps,

When winds are strong and waves are high,
We seek something to hold onto,
At times we find it too much and we cry,
Sometimes we feel that's all we can do,

Though there are days when the sun rises,
The sky clears and the waves calm,
Those days are the days I feel your kisses,
I know that you will keep me from harm,

On stormy days, when I fear the ocean deep,
I think back to when I climb aboard our relationship.
(Wrote this as I am missing my significant other. Not my best to be honest, but I tried. not feeling very creative today.)

Origami
Hummingbird Oct 2019
Fold me like you always have,
Run your nails to set the creases,
Shape me to the form you crave,
Bend me into the art of your wishes,

My form forever yours to toy with,
I conform to your will and desire,
Expose my surfaces, above or beneath,
I will always be there for you to admire,

I can be flexible or I can be stiff,
That depends on what you want,
I am here to help fill your rift,
The one who says you can when you can’t,

Craft that which you seek of me,
I am but your art, your origami.

Insomnia
Hummingbird Oct 2019
In the light, we smile and play,
Nightly I toss and turn,
Some may say "Just count the sheep",
Ominous fiends dance within my mind,
My thoughts raced at the speed of light
Nothing will lull me now,
In the dark, I stay awake,
As though it were the day.

Those who go to war.
Hummingbird Oct 2019
The eternal fabric of time,
Stained a crimson red,
Woven from silk so fine,
For what the blood was shed,

Who's wrong or right?
It never mattered,
For in both party's sight,
innocence can be crafted,

To hate another man,
Was just a part of the job,
We shoot because we can,
as long as the bodies drop,

A flag and dog tags delivered to the door,
This is just a result of those who go to war.

Just a friend
Hummingbird Oct 2019
We lay in bed all through the night,
Though, my mind will not rest,
I like to think that all is right,
I'm not sure if I've done my best,

You say you're fine, I know otherwise,
I have a feeling I cannot shake,
I know that look, sorrow within eyes,
Whispers while you sleep, keep me awake,

We've been together for a while,
I fear you may be keeping things from me,
Perhaps we've outrun this mile,
You've grown tired of thinking about what we should be,

I see the way you smile with her, I fear this is the end,
You keep me holding on when you say she's just a friend.
