A Sweet Apple Pie
Griffin Hehmeyer Mar 2022
Fresh out of the oven,
Steaming, hot and sweet
And I realized all a sudden
That’s something I want to eat

The apple pie just sitting there,
Forbidden, banned, taboo.
But to take just one sweet bite,
There’s nothing id rather do

Like a muse, it sang to me,
Like a siren far ashore
To taste the sweet forbidden apple,
There is nothing id want more

There was no one to tempt me
my actions were my own,
and so I cut a single slice
In the kitchen, all alone.

I knew that mom might catch me,
But I did not care,
Resisting that apple pie,
Was not something I could bare.

After just a single bite,
I understood the fall of man.
Because the temptation of a lovely apple,
That’s something I can understand.

A Lonely Polar Bear
Griffin Hehmeyer Mar 2020
Lonely, lost and freezing
Desolate and bare
How sad it is to be
A lonely polar bear

My friends all left me long ago
The seals all swam away
And every night I wonder
If today will be the day

The day that I too,
am swept up by the sea
Like all of those other bears
who wandered before me

When your genesis is our Armageddon
Your victories burden is ours to bear
Oh, how sad it is to be
A lonely polar bear
Its about global warming obviously

Once Upon a Time
Griffin Hehmeyer Oct 2019
Once Upon a Time,
Where dragons roamed the land
With scales that shined like solid gold
and castles oh so grand

Once Upon a Time,
Where a peasant could be king
Take to the stars, and break his bars
and hear the people sing

Once Upon a Time,
Where magic filled the air
faires danced on feathered wings
and gave children a scare

Once Upon a Time,
Where true love reigned supreme
Where heaps of gold,
Were traded and sold
and woe was just a dream

Once Upon a Time,
Where we made life our friend
Once Upon a time so great
It seemed to never end

Once Upon a Time,
Sadly one that could not last
But what is done is done
and that is in the past

Once upon a Time,
One so very long ago
Where magic filled the air
and angels filled the snow

Plants as tall as castles,
Wizards, warlocks, spells.
Evil and enchanted apples
Talking frogs inside the wells.
There's pumpkin pie that came alive
and flying giant frogs
and giant beans that lived and thrived
and cheerful talking dogs

Oh Once upon a Time,
oh what I would not give
if even for a single moment
that time I could relive

Once Upon a Time,
One so very far away
A time we cant go back to
So let us love today

Broken things
Griffin Hehmeyer Sep 2019
A clock that doesn't tick
A bell that doesn't ring
A memory forgotten and
A bird that fails to sing

A torch that's made of darkness
A heart that's broke in two
Me without you by my side
and a friend that isn't true

Love that's made of anger
A house that's not a home
A flower without petals
and a scholar with no tome

A king without his people
A life without its loss
A window dark as midnight
and a garden lacking moss

And well we may seem broken
And gone beyond repair
As long as you are with me
being broken I can bear.
Written instead of doing homework.

I Will Be By Your Side
Griffin Hehmeyer Sep 2019
From today until yesterday
From now until forever
I'll be walking here beside you
I'll be walking here whenever

And when you come to crossroads
Whatever road you choose
Take comfort in the fact
That ill be walking next to you

In times of strife
In times of famine
Times of loss and woe
Wherever you decide to wander
That is where I go

Through mountains breaking through the clouds
And valleys far below
whenever you decide to travel
I'll be there through wind and snow

And when it comes the time to end
This journey you have done
I will be right by your side
For our journey has just begun

— The End —
