We're at war
Anviti Suri Apr 2016
She has stars in her veins they said.
Yet the mirror is a war she fights daily.
A war she loses at dusk.
A war that stirs up comets within her.

Hope
Anviti Suri Mar 2016
She found solace in the ripples of water.
Distortion was her escape,
While mirrors were a matter for another day.

Scalding

She had a scalding heart,
Suffering fuelling it forever.

Eternity
Anviti Suri Mar 2015
An eternity would pass within a blink of an eye if it meant I could have you like rain has July.
By July I meant Indian monsoons.

Love
Anviti Suri Feb 2015
Love is a strong thing.
Had ****** been loved, the Jews would be alive.
Had John been loved he wouldn't have hung himself from the fan last night.
That four letter word can end wars and cure cancer.
Love is a strong thing. A little too strong to be described in words.

Prejudice is humanity's favourite sin. It is that parasite that gnaws till there is nothing left of you.

Magical
Anviti Suri Feb 2015
They say that magic always comes with a price, and I couldn't agree more
for I paid the price of your love everyday. It was magical in it's own way.
Not a good day. I have a feeling that none of my friends like me. The one's who used to be close seem so distant and I wonder if there's anything wrong with me. Did I do something to make them hate me? I used to be sorta popular and had so many friends and all of a sudden I feel so lonely. Bad day.

Perfection

Being good at heart is perfection enough.

Beautiful
Anviti Suri Jan 2015
'I am beautiful'
These words are a little difficult to muster.
I try each day.
Try till there's nothing left of me.
Only to realise that this world is made up of hypocrites in disguise.
Just something I penned down in a minute. It's nothing great but just something I feel.

Love
Anviti Suri Jan 2015
I can never fall in love with a man who just says that he loves me. He has to make me believe that he does.
Just another day with no reciprocated feelings.
I will never be pretty enough for him, it is always some other girl.

Judgement
Anviti Suri Jan 2015
They pointed out my flaws
This life didn't seem worth living anymore.
All those judgements and pointed fingers,
It's a getting a little too much to handle.
Being me seemed more like a crime,
And not a right of mine.
All those pretty faces and perfect bodies,
Are slowly gnawing at me
And life doesn't seem like a pleasure anymore.
Judgement is humanity's favourite sin.

Untitled
Anviti Suri Jan 2015
John Keats, when asked about his ideal woman said, 'like a milk-white lamb that bleats for man's protection.' Why did you even give her the honour of being compared to an animal? It was her duty to give birth, her duty to sacrifice her life so you may live yours and her duty to be the most loving person on earth. Why give her this privilege?
Gender discrimination.

Meh
It's funny how just a smile from you can make my day. I hate the effect you have on me. I wonder when did life become so complicated.

Emotions
Anviti Suri Dec 2014
It was as if you could control my emotions, my poetry. It solely depended on you, what I would write about today. Would it be love, sorrow, pain or just a broken heart talking.

Denied
Anviti Suri Dec 2014
An actor she became at an early age
When brother got all the praise,
She wiped off all the sorrow from her face.
Behold my friends! the time had come,
The sole reason of her survival,
It was marriage alas!
Baba said from a good family he hails,
But the lash marks on her back told other tales.
Then came nine months of misery
A girl it was! all was in vain.
Her son kicked her out at the age of sixty
On the bed of that old age home,
Her last breaths were hasty.
And she said,
'Dear God, don't make me a daughter of Eve,
Dear God, don't make me a daughter of Eve,
A son of Adam to be I plead.'

Mistake
Anviti Suri Dec 2014
A mistake indeed,
That's what they called it.
Was it the burkha she wore?
Or that saree?
It was her fault completely.
Was it her clothing?
Or the fact that she was born?
How dare she board that bus
And travel along that lonely road.
**** was a consequence of leaving the house
Getting an education and being who you are.
From four to forty
No one they spared.
Their fault was that they existed
The ways of the human mind are twisted.
We go to our church, temple and dargah
But has disrespect for a woman,
Been taught by Quran, Bible or Veda?
It is time we take a stand,
Enough chances these men have had
It is time we said Beti Zindabad.
