-rapture-
The steam of the shower burning.
The knots in my stomach churning.

Scrubbing.
     Scrubbing.
          Scrubbing.

Lather. Rinse. Repeating.

Scrubbing.
     Scrubbing.
          Scrubbing.

Skin is raw and bleeding.
Red water is rising.
But the anxiety's not subsiding.

Skin is raw and bleeding.
But the filth of you remains.
My body you have stained.

Nothing can be again quite as it was before
like my thoughts after seeing you lying on the floor
passed out in puddles of **** and *****

Took care of you all night long it's
a shame the things I told you, you'll never remember
or maybe you do and it's easier to play the pretender.

Acting like nothing had happened
protecting your pride
but it speaks volumes that you can't or won't look in my eyes.

We'll never be anything, expect for that night
when I said I loved you, and you said "alright".

You leave me purple rings
Impressions on my skin
Reminders of where you've been

New Text Message; 3:03
New Text Message; 3:03,
read you wanted to see me,
but as you ****** me from behind,
my face was the last thing on your mind.

I know this is what I signed up for,
simply *** and nothing more,
but lately I've been feeling,
my pulse race in anticipation of our next meeting.

Realized I had it in for you bad,
when you mentioned how many other girls you had,
and I smiled, played along, and lied,
pretending you weren't the only guy of mine.

You don't even know the right thing to call me,
when you breathe "Madison" and not "Maddie",
I hate my name,
it's unfitting and plain.

Yet I discovered when your lips form those very sounds that I despise,
if just for a moment, there's nothing I'd rather go by.

To you it's just another night with another girl,
to me it's about more than the way my toes curl.
When you leave, the only thing I have to remember you by,
are your moans echoing in my ears and bruises on my thighs.

You said "this is the best view in the world, I could ******* forever",
like I was the only one who could bring you pleasure,
but I'm aware if it came down to it,
you wouldn't know if my eyes are green or sort of blue-ish.

The sad thing is I'm hanging on to every moment,
I have with you waiting to one day find my spirit broken.

Bedside Manor
In eighteen years, eight men have seen my body lay beneath their sheets.
But not one of them has ever seen me.
They've struck up drunken conversation in an effort to decide "Your place or mine?"
But not one of them has ventured to explore my mind.

Water Blue
So I got to see the ocean,
You always kept me locked away,
But I got to see the ocean,
He showed me just today.

It’s dangerous and dark,
Just like you said to me,
But so beautiful and strong,
Things you said I’d never be.

So when I got to see the ocean,
Never thought I’d find myself there too,
Now I’ll go to see the ocean,
To wash my body clean of you.

under which I lie
listening to white noise
I swear could be your voice
sinking deeper in
to sheets so smooth they could be your skin.

Race. Human Race.
In this haze of modern delusion,
fights over black, white, or fusion,
what's important is you're losing,
sight of what it means to be human.
We had a few beers, and then a few more...
The empty box flattened on the floor,
read something like twenty-four.

We danced to made up melodies...
A pair of socks and two bare feet,
shuffled around aimlessly.

"Look at the stars!" you said, staring at the ceiling...
All I saw were cracks and paint peeling,
but I found it was worth believing.

Anonymous Confession.
Forgive me father for I have sinned.
This here is my confession...

Today a man left home,
spent countless hours on the road,
and wound up where he meant to go.
A life of service is what he chose.
A respectable career is what we're told.

But father,
this man of honor,
is out romancing dolled up daughters,
while his girlfriend at home is left to wonder,
if distance really makes the heart grow fonder.
He doesn't worry, he'll always have her.

His back up option, his second choice.
He calls, but not to hear her voice.
She's something to play with, just one of his toys.
Something to brag about back home with his boys.
A good time to be had before he deploys.

They both knew that it wasn't wise,
to sneak her out and pick her up for 2am rides,
all their time spent in-between her thighs,
and so they made a compromise.
He'd have her for dessert, while his girlfriend ate lies.

And this girl, she thought she knew,
the extent to which she was being used,
thought she was just using him too,
but since he's been gone, she's just been confused.
These feelings she has can't be refused,
but now she has nothing left to lose.

She's coming clean, no secrets.
What's done is done, no more regrets.
Has a lot on her conscience she needs to confess.
She's not religious, doesn't believe in that,
but she prays after this,
his girlfriend won't love him any less.
That sailor's about to be in distress.

Eighteen years of running wild.
One day past being a drugged out child.
Slipping on washed up aspirations.
Now come decisions and contemplations...

Raise the child? Or get it aborted?
But you aren't even self supportive.

Evicted yesterday
Happy Birthday

What happened to the rent money?
******* so white made your nose ******.
Call back home.
On what, a phone?
Don't even have quarters in your pocket,
Had to pawn your favorite necklace locket.

Oh yea, this is it. The glamorous life like in the movies...
Minus the money, and cars, and tan body beauties.
Funny how through the haze of addiction,
You never really see what's missing.

Concrete.
Cold street.
All alone.
Welcome home.

Thick metal power lines cast shadows on my drapes

Blue Striped Hoodie
Snuggled up in your hoodie
You said it looked good on me
As we walked between trees
Looking for a place to go
Somewhere you could smoke
It smells like your cologne
So as I lay here alone
It’s as if you’re still here
Whispering sweet nothings into my ear
Still remember the first sight
The first time
And the last
But all that has passed.

You taught me how to steal
How to feel
That thrilling appeal
In fact this very hoodie
Was one of your five-finger discounted goodies
I took a top from Good Will today
Just to feel the same type of way
As when you were by my side
It was like you were there along for the ride.

Cannot wait till I see you again
My soul aches for its best friend.

Frat Attack
Alcohol in the air
Even more in our systems
Whole room spinnin
Whole room sippin
On that Bacardi Limón
Feel the bass in our bones
The lights turned down low
Hands to the sky
Music getting us high
Energy moving
From body to body
Infectious
Can’t help it
Can tell it’s
Time to let go
Of all moral control
Yolo
You only live once
So you might as well dance
This is your chance
Drink
Drank
Drunk
Tonight luck
Is on your side
As am I
It’s a **** good night.
Ripping up flowers
Tearing off petals
Shooting down stars
Watching them fall
Snatching up broken dreams
Burying them all

Six feet under
I hope my tears
Drown out the sound
Echoing in your ears
Of screaming and pleading
For all these years

Overgrown weeds
And heavy grey clouds
Even shadows have shadows
Guess everyone has a past

Threw my penny into the well
Well, I guess that didn’t end up too well.
It’s like you were Jack and I was Jill
But it wasn’t Jill who took the spill

It was jack who fell
Under the spell
Of that little girl Jill
Who had the best will

And intentions
Full of questions
Bright eyed
And engaging
Optimistically waiting

For the right guy
To happen on by
Well once she met Jack
She never looked back
And that was that
A fairytale ending

Except that wishing well
Went straight to hell
And that water was poisoned
That penny corroded

Exposing the truth
The ignorance of youth
You weren’t all you seemed
A wolf in sheep’s clothing
Bursting at the seams

The real you came through
But that’s old news

What’s worse is I stayed

Even though day after day
It all was the same
Routine
You think
I would have learned

But I didn’t
And you were only acquitted
When death finally admitted
You to its domain
I hope it rains
Every day
Over your **** grave

And that the most beautiful flowers
Grow just out of reach
Not visible between weeds

And that when the leaves change
And the snow falls
You’re left with nothing
Nothing at all
But the miserable company
Of what’s left of your “love” for me.

In The Name Of Being Young
Look back on your life
on all the things you said you’d try
before the day you die.

All the ridiculously dumb
Crazy things you've done
In the name of being young

All the stupid **** you did
Just because you were a kid

Because you were once told
“NO” by someone old

Look at you, you little rebel
Taking **** to the next level

Getting in to all that trouble
Killing time like you’ve got double

Raising more than a little hell
Knowing the consequences all too well

Not giving a **** is your middle name
All of life is just a game

Play it well and **** the system
Stick it to the man until he listens.
Experiential seeker
Live in the moment sort of believer
Capture the essence, capture the feeling
What is the story, what is the meaning?
Ephemeral and fleeting
Such is the world through eyes of human beings
But just for a minute forget what you're seeing
Embrace this pure and unadulterated freedom
Now give up control, your conscience is leaving!!
Turn the music up till my ears ring,
till I cant hear myself sing,
scream,
at the top of my lungs,
can't deal anymore I'm done.

One,
more time,
you say give it one more try,
well sorry not tonight,
cause I'm already gone,
been at this **** for way too long.

So baby rev up the engine,
step on the gas,
turn the radio up
till it shakes the ******* glass.

In the rearview,
flashing blue lights,
knock me off this high,
******* killed my vibe.

Won't come back down,
no I won't slow down,
tires squealing peal out,
heart pounding so loud.

Adrenaline,
again again,
can't get enough,
I lied I really give a ****.

Come back to me,
dear sweet ecstasy,
I crave you like a drug,
coursing through me in my blood.

Let's throw our hands up,
in playful surrender,
give in to the 5-0,
give up everything we know.

Let them think we've changed our minds,
then jump in the car and leave it all behind,
you're all I need and I'm all you've got,
so what do you say; give it one more shot?

Down the Rabbit Hole.
Spiraling down
now
out of control.

Into the darkness
looming below.

Glimpses of starlight,
sunshine,
and gold.

Moments of life
and purpose
arose.

Gave me the strength
to carry on.
Found me a singer
to my life's song.

These times of perfetion,
so well played out,
in sync with the worthless,
thoughts of doubt.

Is this what it's like?
Is that what it could be?
Or am I meant to sit here
left out and dreary?

Climbing the staircase,
taking my time.
Counting them each,
as they arise.

Coming undone
'cause these steps lead nowhere.
I need fresh air,
breathing in failure.

Can this opportunity even compare?
I'm walking,
but barely,
across thin air.

The railing's gone,
no safety net.
I'm life's cruel joke,
a burnt out cigarette.

Trying to move on,
having regrets.
But all new beginnings
start with an end.

More.
War.
It's all I've ever known.
Out here struggling on my own.
Each day is a fight to survive.
Each hour passing with this gift of life.

Tears.
Appear.
Falling to my shirt.
Uncover my face to expose the hurt.
Done begging for your approval.
I'm here to instate your removal.

You.
Threw.
Everything you had at me.
Both figurative and literally.
Now I'll try to say this pleasantly.
Get the hell out, I'll count to three.

Last Chance Calling
Is it true that you don't always know
what you've got
till it's gone?

'Cause I know what I have
has been right here
by my side
all along.

You say life's been cruel to you
knocked you down
and kicked you
then never came back around.

Well I say stop being the victim
get back up
hold your ground.

There are a lot of people rooting for you
to make it through
I hope you know.

Hope it's not too late
hope you choose to partake
in this life you have.

Don't let hard times make you hang your head
this is not
what you had planned
what you wanted.

Look at me you're better than this
this helplessness
is foolishness.

Now come on I've had enough
stand up up up
last chance calling
make it count
make it yours.

Whiskey Lullaby
You think I get high
just so I can get by?

Well the truth is I drink
so I don't have to think

about how much I hate it here.
I'd rather chug another beer

than sit here and feel.
The likes of which have no appeal.

Work it out? I'd rather not
Come pour me a double shot.

Let's all try to get along?
You'd better make it extra strong.

You cry out "Why why why?!"
and I'm here like "On the rocks with lime."

Pleading that it's not too late
while I'm downing ***** straight.

But it IS too late I'm gone.
You can sing some long sad song,

or bid me goodnight,
but I'll be alright

laying here and singing my
good old whiskey lullaby.

Coffee Cups and Ski Jumps
I hate coffee, but I guess it'll do
because I really love spending time with you.

We meet at three
in a cafe down the street.

Grab a booth by the window
to watch the falling white snow.

Hours pass and we're still talking
don't want to leave so we keep stalling.

"Just one more drink..."
you say with a wink.

And there we go again
laughing at stories about your old friends.

This moment is perfect
every second worth it.

We make plans to see each other next week
you're so determined to teach me how to ski.

I'm terrified of heights
but if you're there it might be alright.
The monotany,
has caught up with me.

I need separation,
independent declaration,
from these divided,
un-united,
people called family.

Try to escape reality.

Waste of conciousness,
so fed up with this.

Done...

Run...

straight into oblivion.
Feet pounding on the pavement.

Trip...

Fall...

Love is the root of revolution.
War is a problem, not the solution.

Quit fighting

and lying

every ******* day.

Get on your knees, fold your hands, and pray.

We should want it to be better.
Blood bonds, strong, hold us together.

Sick of it now.

Sticking it out.

Being Human
I know what it is, but not what it means
Come closer children I’ve seen the light
Between the lines
Scattered across the page
The glare is blinding how could we have missed it before?
That flash of truth
That spark of inspiration
Enlightened and free to spread
That glimmer of hope
To those desperate and needy
To those with nothing more
Than the ideas floating aimlessly round their heads
Broken and forgotten
They creep through shadows
Sleep in rubble
But what can we do?
Find it
Find the will to survive
Find the fight deep inside
Find our humanity
And make it a reality
We are all animals
Untamed beasts driven by desire
Subconsciously drifting
Aimlessly wandering
The brevity of our condition is all too apparent
Control the creature inside
Show it compassion and love like it’s never known
We are human
We are alive
We are free
To decide
To think
To scheme
To scream
To make war
To make love
We are capable of such beautiful things
Step forth from the shadows
You are here you are alive
Hold your head up high
And let the light shine.
Come with me; take a walk on the wild side,
Let me show you what life’s like through my eyes.

Leather and lace cover bumps and bruises
Scars and stories only leave you clueless

Under long sleeves, I cut, I’m bleeding
What kind of life do I think I’m leading?

You think you’re tough, baby you’re not prepared
Come take a walk with me, unless you’re scared.

I don't know about you...
I mean I had a good time
From the slow sips of white wine
To the liquor shots all in a line
I’ll be here doing just fine.
Bogged down and stained with dirt from my past
you washed me clean, I sparkled at last.

You gave me hope, you made me smile
forget "an inch" I gave you a mile.

You reminded me that the sky is blue
you showed me happiness I never knew.

We ran away into the night
with you by my side, everything felt right

We drove into the sunset
with nothing but our pasts to forget.

We were young, we were in love
hand in hand, the sky above.

Wind in our hair, passion in our hearts
nothing coud have torn us apart.

Singing the words to our favorite songs
through it all we stood tall and strong.

Bowing to no one, not even the wind
together forever there is no end.

Welcome To Our Home
Welcome to our home
Where actions don’t speak louder than words
Where silence is a relief
And you’d rather eat alone.

Our “Hellos”
Turn into “Hell no’s”
And there are no hugs and kisses
Only blows and misses.

You learn to slow your breathing
And appear to be asleep
To avoid the shallow apologies
That won’t mean a thing next week.

Welcome to our home
Where you’re summoned and sent away like a dog
Where you wake up in the morning
And you’d rather go to school.

Our friends are always over
Our fridge is always full
Just ask Jack Daniels
We’re his second home.
Broken street lights
Dim against the black of night
Cast shadows on the wall behind us
The red brick smolders from the heat between you and I
Clothes soaked from the summer rain
Laughing we lay down on the empty road
Where only the memories of cars drive by
Hands intertwined
We look to the stars above
And watch as the world goes by
The sound of two breathing as one fills our ears
My head on your chest
The beating of your heart echoes mine
Hanging onto the shadows of yesterday’s youth
Not yet ready to face the consequences
Let us once again feel alive
