Catching on the wind
scents, hints of dogwoods blooming
recollecting youthful
adventures in backseat love
On backwood roads, back in time

Everywhere I look I see words
rhyming words tied by themes
running in and out of my head
like a faucet with no off or way
to tuning them out
So I write and write and write
with no  thoughts consequence or doubt
People look strangely at me
when I talk in rhythmic rhyming ways
my kids are amazed to this day
some say it weird or some kind of
crazy *** savant who can't speak properly
Well here is the news or
as they use to say
the straight dope
so tuck this away
The words we poets right
are not just words for play
they are all human feeling emotions
and critical mind states just said
and put out in an easy familiar way
for those less fortunate who can't
read think and write this way.
So here is a start
Green Eggs and Ham
You see?
Even a child still growing his heart
can understand thoughts put this way

The fear is not living, though some do
Nor the fear of living life alone, that too
The fear Is dying and being buried alone,

My muse has learned to change her frights
not in a material shift
                  but in her dreams
inside
I think it amazing
                                she shrugs it off
no big deal


but if she can change a dream?



                                                   could she change her mind?

swimming, sailing, skipping
ebbing, flowing ,rising, falling
water breaths life

People look into the dark
To see shades of death, I look
For night creatures breath
To prove I’m not afraid
And the darks not death
But life without light

The world just flew by
as I sat helpless watching
On an Amtrak train

I'm just a human
Nothing more and anything else
Are your terms, labels

Music box, broken again
Another sad man, played C seven
Maybe, him there, crying

Cardboard hopelessness
across from the coffee shop
And she with no sleeve

we eased in back doors
then I carried you threw the front
we're still opening more

Ok, so.
I dream, man.
You laugh, but dreaming, man.
Is bad ask any dreamer.
They all scream the same
Reality is a dream, man
The real dream, man,
Is coming

Ive been here before
in a dream, more real than real
Am I back dreaming?

caught on endless seas
rudderless drifting  oceans
swaying, I'm slipping
beneath rocking swaying swells
sailing me gently asleep

When I look at you
I don't see the hate
But, boy! I feel it, I think,
I even smell it, oozing,
from your open pores.

time and time again
you never cease to surprise
waking me again

early morns better
each letter, word clear crystal
my mind unfettered

Man, I work so hard to get ahead
I don't even have time to make my bed
Paying bills and feeding kids
Dude, I run myself ragged keeping these digs

But that dude across the street
What's he got? Seems he got it all beat
House ain't grand and cars look iffy
But he don't seem to sweat the real nitty gritty
This is a cat I need to meet!

What's up man? Why you gotta act the boss"?
He said "Brother, the secrets in the sauce"
He said " everybody got a sauce around here"
He said " but they ain't sharing what we all hold dear"
I asked " you got me intrigued, so give me the score?"
He said something so wack, I had him say it once more!
He yelled it again "LOVE!  Jack, now shut that door'!

Buried face in hands
Lions eating their own young
Oh, familiar pain

Bundled up on the Aluetian coast
On some brisk breezy Bering Sea roost
I turn my glass to a young feathered crew
A King Eider mother counting her brood
She counted once then twice
Found her missing wobbler
Fighting under floating ice
Picked pecked and prodded
The little prince finally herded
and nested warm and nice

high voltage tempest
below, they buzz, bracing, tense, alive
the current pulses thru

this emerald gem
highly prized, envied, and sought
how I love her shine

Heard that obscure song
about rooms with shadows, dancing
But theres no light here

I only gave you my heart
Thats sad enough
But you came for another sacred soul
Thats bad eenough
I couldn't give you that which is not mine
So I said enough
But you came a lurking anyway
You never had enough
Souls are eternal gifts from above
I just wanted enough

I am so entertained by all this hurt
and pain slicing my heart just the same
as an arrow shot with perfect aim

I fold into you
like rose water love letters
sealed envelope tight,
ever protecting arms keep
my frayed edges from wearing

Regal heart guarding
Majestic royalty seen

Flat top mountain hike
High above blue sky slowly rolls by
Beauty splayed before my eyes

My kids buy jeans with
The holes built in, they
Think they are cool, so in
My jeans had patches sewn in
Over holes worn in, buy
Hard playin
climbing and fallin
Ripping and tearin
Flesh with denim
I earned those holes
I flaunted in

daylight fades sooner
in the land of midnight sun
the darkness draws near

wild canine howls heighten
under northern light apparitions
lean times are coming

while frantic brown bears scour
glacial streams for half dead salmon
fat reserves needed

purple fireweed fields
have turned a dead shade of brown
soon to be covered white

big game herds panic
as caribou calves snuggle close
carnivores prowl near

the falling is short
not much time to prepare
winter is coming

the brook babbles by as we watch the leaves turn
some falling midstream carried off around that bend
from the front porch rocking in our deep woods cabin

life's contrast sharpens
looking through the white birch stand
dotted with yellow

light fades faster as the sun makes it's procession
our lush green abundance from days ago now gone
alaskan seasons change with timely cruel precision


the focus complete
seeing my life's eternal mate
rocking beside me

her honeysuckle patterned dress brushing the ground  as she swings

it's all as it should be...
