"thurgood" poems
I've always aspired to be a little bit of everything
Try everything once, give everyone a second chance
I dreamt of making mountains from milwaukee's molehills
And find prosperity and pleasure in the potholes
Ask not what your city can do for you but what you can do for your city
And I'll give my city a little bit of everything
Befriend a little bit of everyone
Some see my city as small, but it gives birth to such big dreams such high hopes
A state that has given birth to my state of creativity
A city that has certified that anything can happen
At any second
My city is a little bit of everything
Dangerous like the streets as the numbers get lower
Rambunctious like the fireworks at the lakefront on the 3rd of July
Still like the suburbs of Wauwatosa all the way to Muskego
Freezing like Madison mid January
Scorching like the city during summertime
My city has made me as
Poetic as Maya Angelou
Brave as Martin Luther King
Intelligent as Thurgood Marshall
Soulful as that lady that sung the blues
**** as Dorothy Dandridge in her red dress
Delicate as Diana before she met the Wiz
Quiet as Celie
Sweet as Suga
Arrogant as Ali
Humble as Halle
Milwaukee, the city that made my dreams.

Sick be your Service to her Majesty's earned
As Subject connects to the Predicate
For these Numbered Fathers wring Clocks adjourned
Her firm and footed Heart accumulate
Never has my cloud of such Clouds combined
How her months spent Moons for your Just Return
Which, by Day, tie Knots to her palms by Night
By strafing those Bullets will deflect a Burn
At this Point, the Line where I bid salute
None but the Stars-of-Jack best achieve
That you - Potent Sample - pay resolute
Which the Iron Man will always believe.
Thursday calls. The Crescent good-bids your Glove
To fill your Mission; Yet maintain her Love.

For long of years its been known and feared by not just a few.
So they passed laws to hinder you.
Keep you in the dark from being educated and seen as smart.
And as times went by they faced their fears that a educated black man would only expose the skills they never had.
To this day they cries loudly of the knowledge black man.
Afraid that what they don't know?
Again, would be exposed when in a knowledge test.
Thurgood Marshall, rose to the challenge and greater heights.
Malcolm X, finally known as Shabazz came from nothing to be a shining star.
Charles "Blood Plasma" Drew left his mark upon us.
And hosts of others too.
When knowledge is before you to learn?
Learn it, apply it and watch many fear you.
President Obama, when in office made many in Congress be seen as fools.
A slave never was given opportunity to branch further.
But you have all forms of opportunities to be seen as a king.
Educate yourself black man and many will see the best in you.
If it's only you.

I read about Martin.
I read about Malcolm.
I read about Rosa.
I read about Muhammad Ali.
The people that started a revolution to solve a resolution.
I read about Harriet.
I read about Charles Drew.
I read about Nat Turner.
I read about George Washington, Carver.
Some many still re unaware of to this day.
I read about Sojourn Truth.
I know of Thurgood Marshall.
I read about the Count, the Duke, that's Ellington.
And Aretha and James Brown too.
All apart of the movement of African Americans fight.
All faced injustice for trying to do things right.
I read about Althea Gibson.
And the Civil Rights protesters fighting against fools.
Some, we see still operating like they still trying to rule.
I hope those reading this has learned something too.
