I woke to a morning that called out in crystals, where mistletoe ice wands would grant me three wishes and wise men were wrapped up in kaftans and turbans.
The clock stuck at five,so the **** came alive and told time from cracked egg shells and church bells were snowed in,no dings and no dongs, the rights and the wrongs of it seem to fit in quite nicely, when at six the wind whips through the streets where I walk,it's like treading in chalk leaving footprints to read, with my toes feeling the way,so glad I wore two pairs of socks and my wellingtons today.

Then at eight there's hot chocolate and a muffin with jam and the work day begins.
No djinns and no genie, just the boss who's a skinflint and a tightfisted meanie
but it all ends at four when home seems to beckon,
I reckon I'll go and make more prints in the snow and maybe call in to see Andy for a pipe and a brandy, then off to feed Joe,(he's my cat dontya know) and then bed with my nightcap, take the bolt off the catflap and dive into a book I was saving for the time before I nap.

we went shopping this morning,
then to the movies.
all the time,
the little voice in my head
was telling me,
i had forgotten
an important chore.

we were gone three, four hours.
the little voice niggling away.

got home just now
and remembered
as i opened the front gate.

forgot to lock the catflap
gus's in/outdoor.
well, by now, its far too late.

you see gus,
the little grey cat
is a collector, not a
hunter of things.

if god forbid,
he were a dog.
he would be one
of those retreivery things.

he finds and he brings,
normally to his food bowl.
so now, we are in the kitchen
and were taking stock.

one mangled penny lizard
and two other tails.
one drowned moth,
one feebly swimming still
three dazed cicadas,
one belly up and by
the sound a few more yet
to be found
a praying mantis, sans one claw
and something else,
mushed into the floor
a magpie feather,
but,(thank god) not the bird
our little grey cat,
flat out on the mat.
it has been a big morning,
no doubt about that.

he sleeps on, oblivious.
as we his minions,
clean up his mess,
as best we can.
from experience the lizards,
find their own way out.
the cicadas, we find,
when they sing
their discordant song,
reminding me, all day long
my little voice,
not ever wrong.
we once came home to find a size 12 chicken
still in bag half defrosted and gnawed around the edges go figure lol

Just breath and sit still
gentle numbness creeps in
like a cat through a catflap

Crimson and purple and grey
greyness leaks from prime,
colours dotted on the walls

dust swirling through the grass.
Scratched.  Whispering fields
emptyness of green and yellow

drought runs its fingernails
through the spines of. doors
left ajar but slowly closing

transcending the closed place
of clouds slicing the
deep blue.

Strange but true. This morning, I could hear my cat and dog fighting downstairs as cats and dogs do, only this time, the words were clear and loud / maybe I'm a pet whisperer.

Dog:  You don't give a **** anyone but yourself! Why did you have to gobble up my food?
Cat: Don't be such a ***** and stop whining! Finders keepers, losers weepers!
Dog: You're such a diva, you think you're a prima ballerina!
Cat: Shut up you try-hard! Fool!
Dog: At least, she can count on me.
Cat: Count on you? For what? To guard the house? Get real! You'd be bought off with a nice piece of steak like anyone else!
Dog: I'd never let her down, don't bluff, don't double-cross.
Cat: That's why you're an idiot! I don't jump through hoops without dead-certain gravy. I lounge around in a sunny warm spot and purr my way to grub.
Dog: That's for sure. The trouble is, you're useless!
Cat: Who gives a rat's ***? I'm no groveler or lick-***!
Dog: Yeah, you're a chancer. You pounce when it suits.
Cat: That's how I like it, life's dandy! Anyway, I think she admires that about me, wishes, she could be more like me, definitely not like you!
Dog: Maybe. But she'll always be more like me than you.
Cat: Sad but true!

I could hear the catflap open, the dog's paws on the hall floor. Got up, stayed in my PJs and spent the day sitting in the sun.
Are you a cat or a dog?
This may set the CAT amongst the pigeons
And also let the CAT, out of the bag
Perhaps creating a CATachresis
Like CATarrh, is a pirate CAT wag

A CATalogue, is a CAT on a log, missed
As a CATalyst, are CATS on a list
A CATechist, meanwhile, is a CAT that likes to be kissed
And a CATholic, a drunken CAT, slightly ******!

A CATechu, is a CAT with some ills
And a CATerpillar, then taking lots of pills
A CATegory, a cat, hence a dark sense of humour
Finally a CATflap, is an anxious CAT, according to a rumour?

it's okay, i know this isn't purrfect!
