A night in mid-August
and you can hear them
from your house,
the drums begin
and brass sounds follow
like quietly excited children,
like the two who walk with you
over the hill.

The sun sinks
into evening’s quicksand,
your soggy clock
of adolescence
ticks faster than ever.

Scent of popcorn
excites your nostrils,
grey couples talk soft, slow,
and once your blanket
is draped upon the grass
you see an orb of hollow green
drift sleepily
up, up, over everyone’s heads
and you wish
you were that tiny balloon,
floating far away
toward something new
as each teenage summer
blurs into your brew.
Written: May 2013 and April 2014.
Explanation: Apologies to those of you who do not like Plath, but for my final year dissertation at university I will be writing poems about her (and also her husband Ted Hughes), and topics the two of them looked at. On Friday 15th August 1952, Plath and two children she looked after that summer went to a band concert in Chatham, Massachusetts. The scene is described in her collected journals. A work in progress - feedback greatly appreciated for not only this, but all future poems dealing with Plath and Hughes.

Endless Desire

This misery is eating us alive
Blame me for not letting you breathe
That’s all you do, hate is pushing us to survive
In the darkness, through the blind eye
Judging faults and mistakes, giving into the lies
Oh this night is making me insane,
The rough *** and the neck bites
The blood and broken bones
We are messed in every way, grinning in the realness of suicide
Hate me, hurt me, love me, you are mine
Celled in this asylum, to a realization that maybe you like it
This relationship that is chaining us
Red blooded and breathless,
You scream my name in this endless desire
We burn but still strive through this fire

If you hurt me,
Why are you my remedy?
If I love you,
Would you call it insanity?

I leaned my bike up against the gate and
Sighed.
Leaning against the window was the girl
thee girl
The girl with her usual
Frappe in hand
And book in the other.
Her flowing red hair
And glasses
With bright pearls brimming and
Shining against her pink lips.
Her face
Fair and clean
Rosy cheeks and
A smile.
Her clothes
Grey beanie
Flowy top
Jeans and
Combat boots.
Rings and
Jewelry galore
And
Even some tattoos.
shes perfect
I think to myself as I
Picked my bike back up and
Started riding away.

I hate making
Imaginary relationships in my mind.
It's terrible.
But with you,
It doesn't feel imaginary.
It feels so real.

can you feel my demented thoughts

from where you lie.

pressing upon you
moving through the slew
of my thick ego
reaching for the tenderness
of the promise of one more kiss

I didn't mean for this.

To drown in the void; a steadfast oxymoron
But I am struggling to stay afloat
My limbs lack sensation, mockery of my mind
Vocal cords cut, stolen that night in the snow
Carried to the cosmos on an angels back
Helen, how you torment me!
A thousand whispers, torrential and coaxing
To find silence would be all end all; greatest defeat
But what a warrior I found in you,
Quiet and it's little reverie
Infinite; feeling as though I should explode
The quickness of newly discovered emption uncontainable
But in solidation I am weak, without your armed defences
And Helen is touching my skin again

Homeless old beggar                                Elderly, destitute man in serious need
disgusting and annoying                          really down and out, desperate
degrades the neighborhood                     probably feels safe around here
aggressively accosts me                            approaches me hopefully
thinks I'm an easy touch                           believes he can count on me
unappreciative...always wants more       honest and humble about his needs
likely spends it on ***** and cigarettes  maybe I'll bring him food next time
Takes advantage of my good nature       Fortunate that I'm in a position to help
