Cycle

Creep
Heartbreak.
It's something that cycles
again
and again.
Love someone,
love them too hard,
get heartbroken,
trampled on.
Take the time to get back up,
eat too many tubs of ice cream,
stand balanced on two feet.
You're up again,
finally.
You fall even harder this tim,
get hurt even more,
and the cycle continues.

What if we can change that?
What if we can stop the agony,
and things will be okay?
No more ice cream,
no more runny eye liner,
just a smile,
starry eyes,
entwined hands.
What if?
Dare I dream that maybe we could last forever,
and that nature's cruel cycle won't repeat?

Her lips taste like gold
And I smell lilacs on the wind
As a breeze brushes back her hair
She looks me in the eye
And traces a finger down my cheek
And along my jawline
Just to pull gently on my chin hair
She wraps her hands around my face
And pulls me in for a long kiss
No words need to be said
We were speaking with our souls
And I knew there was a reason for everything
In that moment

sometimes on bright days
when i can't stop smiling,
when i look up at the sky
with a sparkle in my eyes
i can hear your voice
and i feel the scars you
left on my heart
and i wonder if the sun
is shining for you too
i wonder if the same hope
that is nestled in my heart
lives in yours too
and sometimes i wonder
if the last words
i said to you visit you
at night just like the pain
you gave me sometimes does
but mostly i wonder
if you're happy
i wonder if you have love
i wonder if the memories
of the short amount of bliss
that we had make you smile
i wonder if you're okay
and honestly, i
hope you are.
This was written for my first mentor, who unexpectedly stopped talking to me one day. It is a poem about hope and forgiveness.
