Dear Bully, Why?
Irlanda pura Nov 1
(The awakening of a bully)

There was a day that a bully realised their fault,
And it started with a little boy asked the following,
And I quote.

Hey there, I know that its time for my daily dosage
Of pain, laceration and unchecked aggression.
To receive those unseen scars that you whip across my heart
But before you hurt me or break me even more
I have a question for you
Why?

Why do you give in to the world around you?
I see in your eyes how much you cry every night
Trying to get that satisfaction from hurting me but,
Still you feel empty.
Why?

Why do you hate me so much?
Is it the colour of my skin?
Do you hate the fact that I don’t know what happened to you and me?
We were friends despite what they said, but slowly
You.
       Drifted.
                    Away.
Why?

Why do you want to change so badly?
I have already lost who I am and become what you wanted,
But still you hate me and break me.
Why?

Why Don’t you know that I can’t change everything?
My accent, my likes and dislikes yet you still hate me,
You tell me to choose BLACK or WHITE
When I’m BOTH.
Why?

Sorry if I went to personal but I needed to know,
Why do you hate me so and,
Why do you continue to do so, even after I tried to change?
So,

Dear Bully, you can do what you were going to do,
But please before I leave answer my questions,
You don’t even need to tell me.
But do it for yourself as it will help
And before I go, I have one final question.

Why didn’t you speak up when you started hurting?

Corruption,
Load Shedding,
Bribery,
Death tolls,
Poverty,
Racism,
Gender based violence,
Isolation,
Lockdown,
Bans,
Global Pandemic

These were the things that people heard about
These were the things that haunted us,

We knew they existed, yet choose to ignore it,
In a country that is so broken,
Where Load shedding is a normal thing,
Seeing beggars at the robot a normal sight,
Hearing famous names being called out for injustices done to women…. A normal sound

Was this really what we wanted,
The day that Nelson Mandela walked out of prison on the 11th of February in the year 1990,
Was a day of celebration,
A sign that injustices were going to end,
The sign that we looked for,
The Beginning of a New South Africa

Yet it was the beginning of

The Never-Ending Promises that were made by political parties,
The Vows the were filled with nothing but hot air,
The Lies that we believed like Gullible guppies,
The very things that broke us and hurt us beyond repair.

They call us The Rainbow nation and we like to act proud about it.
But the fact of the matter is,
That we spit on that title every day,
The things we say, the things we do,
We swore to never harm one another,
Yet turn a blind eye when a man raises his fist,
Against a Women and Child,

We can sit here all day and blame the past,
But the truth is that we will never escape that darkness,
If we keep dwelling in it, if we keep allowing it to live in us,

Apartheid was created to separate us and hurt us,
Hence the word A P A R T,
Yet when we were supposed to heal and join, we were too scarred to look towards the promised land,

The Power that Corrupted our minds so much, that we have turned against our own people,

The stupidly of it all,
the fact that we can still go on with our lives when all these horrors plague our country,
disgusts me to say that this is our norm.
The Fact that it took a Pandemic for our eyes to be opened, the fact that many loved ones had to before we started to listen,
How can we live like this?

We have put our lives in danger,
We have put Democracy on trial,
We have no trust in our police force,
Women and children are living in constant fear,
We seem to be living in the Dark ages as candles have become the latest trend,
There are more holes in our street then on the moon,
And the Unemployment rate seems to be on the rise,
While the mental health of many seems to decline,

When are we going to WAKE UP?
When are we going to STAND UP?
When are we going to stop blaming others and see our short comings?
When are we going to say no to GBV?
When are we going to stop Saying we are going to solve our problems and start solving it?

When my dear country are, we going to fulfil our destiny and reach our dreams,
When Are we going to be the BEST THAT WE COULD BE?

I will tell you when,

We will do it the moment,

WE

OPEN

OUR

EYES
A poem to ask people to see the world as it is, to see the things we need to fix. We need to stop closing eyes to the problems of the world

This Forbidden Sight
Irlanda pura Oct 9
I could hear the faint sound of crickets in the background,
The crackling of wood silently shifting,
the song of the wise old owl,
and the howl of a lone wolf.

But none of these sounds nor the sight of the tranquil moon
Can move me from this moment,
From this feeling,

This
                       Forbidden
                                                        Sight.

You seem mesmerised and hypnotised,
Your smile monsterful, as if you want to laugh,
But are too afraid to break this moment.
You lean in close, into the object of your infatuation,
Not daring to breathe, a heavy breath.

I often wonder if you have ever gotten too close,
If you have scars that are hidden underneath that cloak.
If the siren song of warm light draws you in and,
Wraps around you tight, so tight…

That the light in your eyes becomes as dark as a starless night.

Water
Irlanda pura Oct 9
I often wonder, and ponder about what reminds me of you.
What season, song, sensation,
What flower, feeling, food,
Makes me stop and think just about you.

And then I got it,
A multitude of things that remind me of you.

You are like a stream.
A gentle stream, one that is placed deep, hidden in nature.
Serene, refreshing, crisp .
You are like a stream.

You are like a river.
A rhythmic beat,a ribbon of life.
Enchanted with a mist of mystery,
Harmonious and vibrant.
You are like a river.

You are like the sea.
A powerful yet quiet scene,
An irresistible force drawing others in, a refreshing breeze .
You are like the sea.

You are like the ocean.
A vast breathtaking moment,
Filled with limitless possibilities,
Sapphire, pristine Love.
You are like the Ocean.

But.

Just like the Stream, you have hidden poisons inside that can **** with a smile.
Just like the river, the force of your rapids can delightfully shatter a skull.
Just like the sea, you can drag someone in and drown them in their shame.
Just like the ocean , you contain memories so deep, you watch as we sink.

You are like water,
You can give life, and you can take it.
You can hurt but you can heal.
But you never leave scars in places that can people see,
You are like Water.

You are not fire that your passion is fast but your marks are seen.
Your not earth that your damage is heard while you rest easy.
Your not air that the wounds are quick and you seek peace.

You are water, deadly deep,
Peaceful pain,
Shallow yet wisdom filled,
A contradiction, a solution.
Something that I desperately need,
Even when it kills me.

Now I found what reminds me of you, yet at the same time leaves me more confused.
Yes you are like water that’s for certain,
But what form will you be for me.
