Old School Love
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
She was magical to me even way back then
They said the way I felt about her was a sin
But that wasn't the only thing that kept us apart
We had it all working against us from the start
The parents, the church, the social setting
all had their say about what who was getting
they just wanted to control everything, have their say
They didn't really give a dam about us anyway
So we saw our chance, we made our break
we had nothing to loose we had nothing to take
We left that sanctimonious religious prison behind
We never looked back, never missed that design
Anyplace on the road we could have lived better
but we went for the city she led and I let her
With only ourselves to care for each other
We never became a father and mother
we each knew the other of us better than ourselves
we lived out our lives in love and respect to our depths
when our journey ended, so did the purpose of our existence
How I thought  love was in the great depression years

Untying Hearts
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
This quote "It is better to end something and start another than to imprison yourself in hoping for the impossible"
It resonates with feelings buried deep in my heart
With longing rising upward as emotion plays its part
thoughts diving deeply into my stream of warm desire,
seeking a way to fit within and perhaps to conspire.
To finally put an end to one-sided fading love
to make space in your heart for the one you dream of
Flashes of insight make me think and start to wonder
Who turned your choice in love into this hurtful blunder
Every marriage has suspicions and so often need restarts
because of lack of understanding between untying hearts
Hearing someone say I love you in a deprecating way
only adds to being made to feel as though you have no say
You're more than simple backdrop scenery in their selfish play
blind to your beauty they're undeserving of your love anyway
Saying, breathing, praying, living the words "I love you"
When "love" means "you define me" then you are loved too
It won't help balance a relationship it's so sad but true
If one of you takes all the love, and none's returned to you.
Now I've put my heart into this, it was not done on a lark
Reigniting smoldering love needs a hot romantic spark
It can't be abandoned no matter what anyone may say
Consummated with co-creation it's in each one's DNA
Even if no one ever reads this still it's not a total waste
I deep soul searched composing it and I did not cut and paste.

This is based on a Quote posted on FB by someone whom I greatly admire. Since my world is centered around me, naturally I thought the advice was for me. It could have easily been about them. It opened up a question from me to them, but I could not ask it of them for fear of being misunderstood, because my thoughts are, once love is consummated by co-creation, there is no going back. It must be repaired and that is to my understanding “a universal law of divinity.'
The quote is: "It is better to end something and start another than to imprison yourself in hoping for the impossible"
My question was: What feelings could be underlying what you meant by the quote? Are your hearts quickly untying as your love is slowly dying?

Cybele
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
It's a secret
No one else feels it,  none other than I
know you are a goddess in my eyes
I know I'm not worthy of your attention
yet I feel it's my life's purpose to mention
That life has no meaning if you pass me by
not knowing flower roots drink when clouds cry
without your sunlight to shine open their petal arms
to absorb for the night your life giving charms
It took heart-crushing time for me to discover
the light of your love shines for another
So then how could I expect you to know
my heart still tags along wherever you go
So I must keep the secret, outside the unrequited cycle
of how my heart is longing only for you my Cybele .

I wanted to express how I believe it would to feel love for a goddess that was walking around on earth not knowing she was a goddess and it would simply destroy her existence if she knew she was immortal, so the secret must be kept even though she thinks she is mortal and loves another. So in this impossible scenario to love her is to be celibate or as in the days of old to be a castrate servant in her cult.

Remorse Key
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
After all the wars and fights
after all the empty nights
I find myself undone by you
and yet you never even knew

Why does it have to be so cold
Why pass me by as I grow old
how deep in love can I now fall
waiting in suspense for your call

magic enchanting sight of you
wells up eyes like drops of dew
glistening films of joyless tears
that dwell awash in aging years

You fill me up with such ache
a deep-felt longing heartbreak
your awesome beauty must be
such a devastating force to me

a reason these poetic works exist
to compel your will not to resist
my intentions man to woman
don't make of them a bad omen

it's creations most cruel joke
a wondrous beauty like a yoke
to hang around a lover's neck
until he no longer gives a ****

If you loved me it'd be different
It's not just men who get limerent
Love needs blinders like a horse
There is no erase key for remorse
Inspired by sending another poem on FB messenger to the wrong person, there''s no way to get it back, so It made me wish there was an erase key for when I felt remorse that I'd accidentally made the wrong person feel something.

Too Good To Be True
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
Baby you're the definition of the cause of the blues
You just empty out any heart you choose
You got no sense of shame or remorse
for the destruction left in the wake of your course
You're so beautiful and it's obvious you know it
but every chance you get to be loved, you just blow it
you pretend sincerity religiously
by sayin' you love God so much
When you're done with the fools that fall for you
What's left unbroken of them is not much
You act like you've been heartbroken,
and say you don't want to be hurt again.
Then you sink the hook in the new poor fool
just when you think They're All In.
There is no truer thing that can be said about you
When she looks that good she's to good to be true
This was inspired by someone trying to catfish me on facebook. Sent me a beautiful picture of her as a Mother with her daughter,  and then hit me up for a hundred buck gift card to get her phone charged. Now when I see the name Danielle, my heart does a little cringe. In my head I can hear BB King singing something like this as lyrics to his song "when my heart beats like a hammer" from riding with the King BB King and Eric Clapton.

Socially Distant Love
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
Socially Distant Love
Why did I ascend into love so verboten and forsaken
Just when it seems our lives could be so easily taken
One embrace in your warm arms has sent my world askew
seeds of pure intention in my fertile imagination grew

Though there's no possible way you have of knowing
That way down deep my heart was so secretly growing
Such compelling feelings my whole being is enchanted
From a seed of love you with such carelessness planted

My burgeoning heart's feelings are emptying out
vacillating in waves between pure fear and doubt
as my own overwhelmingly excited heart's mind
with your heart and mine, our true feelings align

This love's too strong to keep stringing along
with only vague promises of love in my song
Is it too much to ask and or is it all way too soon
is unrequited love driving me crazy as a loon

Oh God in which belief deeply I have suppressed
please reemerge now and hear my fervent request
I'm praying for both our hearts to be receptive
to intentions between us let not become deceptive

The reaper swings his merciless scythe at one and all
Driving all so far apart so we cannot touch, only call
Let us resist this fatal attraction and far apart we stay
When the virus dies off we'll all come out again to play

With reckless abandon let's then love's thrill pursue
Your heart seeking mine and as mine lusts after you
As we satisfy all the silly rules of society's game
United in love even though we may not be in name

For what does a future not centered around you hold
but a sense of lost moments memories might have told
might as well never have lived with our love entwined
when one and not both together dwell in heaven divine

If one should ascend alone and the other must stay
In a life of living in hell day after heartbreaking day
incarnate souls living out of sync with each other
By chance encountering solace as illicit lovers

Every day left behind with no real sense of purpose
Each passing day becoming like another one of surplus
Until a final day comes to a body grown so untenable
It can not play host to an immortal soul so invincible

Since each soul has forgotten that from one came all
Bonds of love are formed by actions large and small
Each personality defines themselves as quite unique
Times toll on each is felt as an unforgiving critique

In some dimension, all consciousness dwells in harmony
When we're there all formless without a way to feel love
Without senses to feed an ego, we can't hear life's polyphony
all exist in a timeless dimension far away and high above
Inspired by the shelter in place and social distancing measures everyone used to get through the first wave of COVID19. and Pure Imagination of what it would be like to have fallen indelibly in love with someone not knowing if either of us would survive, but being willing to spend time together even if it meant not living through the pandemic. What would it be like to experience a love so intense, it could be remembered in the afterlife. A love so complete that it makes life without that love seem not worth living.

" Dreammembering"
Rick O'Shell Jun 2020
" Dreammembering"
Awash in the 8th sea of prelimerence as endless as the ocean
Dreammembering a time of life defined by love's devotion
creating moments that feel as real as now yet out of reach
We held hands then and walked upon a perfect golden beach
Golden light on the curve of cheek and your mane's dark chocolate strands
We redefined "ourself" with loving eyes and touching hands
Thoughts between our heart-minds making promises unspoken
All our times of life on earth we hoped to share as one unbroken
Reality cleaves our dream's edge as consciousness reawakens
a sense of dread, the pang of loss, as love's left there forsaken
prelimerence merged low on Wildcat beach by high tide it's enthralled
We leave it weep-singing love's parting song like Alamere falls
Alamere Falls is a wilderness falls that empties a lake near a California coast that is accessible(Officially) only by a trail on Wildcat beach, that beach trail is submerged during high tide. It seems fitting the waterfall makes a weeping song, or the 8th sea would be of sea of pre-limerence and the freshwater mixing with the saltwater at the falls could weep a melody and the sound of parting  from the lake and merging with the ocean itself could cry as they do in the dream theme. Weep-singing seems fitting to me. I referenced the beach trail here in this poem as the symbolic shutting off ( submerging) of the dreaming-remembering love state when awakening. I invented some words and places here combining dream with remembering and the nonexistent 8th sea which I define as an almost subconscious “emotional sea of hearts waiting to fall in love=prelimerence..” The term pre-limerence I've tacked together to describe the state of being in love with the idea of being in love, the state people are in before finding someone to be in limerence with. "Ourself" as being two people defined as "Two combined consciousness's of one self" Heartminds refers to the neuronel cells in the heart that communicates with our minds, and I suspect other hearts and minds as well. leaving it here before I destroy it all with overthinking,

— The End —
