It took a village
To get me in
It will take a village
To get me out
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Rust the sight
The sound
Of it
Reminding me
Of age
Well weathered
The storms
Leaving imprints
Of yesterday
Not willing
To go away
But rather to
Leave a reminder
Of a Life
Well lived
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
You told.me today
You think.that you should just die
Today's world needs you
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Sadness all around
When can happiness be found
Or can it be so
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020

God's walk in the sand
Leaving the prints of His Life
Softly led the way

Just put the pen down
You have all day tomorrow
Now go back to sleep

Words I want to say
Too hard to express out loud
               Replaced by
       Alphabet Tiles
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
I close my eyes
And all I see
Are scrambled words
In front of me
I blink my eyes
And hope I see
A black board
In front of me
A piece of chalk
Is all it takes
To break the spell
Of big mistakes
A writing hand
Will break the curse
Cuz now.im ready
For the next verse
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
wrote my nightmares
In fresh falling snow
Hoping they would disappear
Drip by drip
Like icicles from the tree
Crackling goodbye
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Swift movement upon
The grayish lake
Breezes blow
As you scurry along
Where are you
Going so fast
Where do you go
Perhaps like me
Scurrying along
In question

Fall
A time to contemplate
Store memories of
Summers '
Golden sunsets ready
To thaw the pain
Of Winter's chill
Spring a new
Beginning
Hope is in the air
Ready to repeat
Its cycle
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
How the seasons
Affected your moods
Winter chill
Words biting
And cold
Icicles  of pain
Waiting for warmth
To drip drip away
The bitterness
Spring has sprung
Fresh words flowing
Words of rebirth
Summer fun
Warm words
Sunny words
Joyous words
Fall is here
Colorful words
Bittersweet words
Golden words
As seasons change
So do.our thoughts
Our words affected
Be open to change
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
we are a seasoned people
I suppose
Frosty white snow
Warm summers to
Thaw out
Brilliant colors and
Toasty smells
New signs of birh
All around
Sled rides and hay rides
Pony rides and bike rides
Cozy fires forest fires
Campfires toasty toe fires
Apple pickin daisy pickin
Guitar pickin **** pickin
Bumblebees ladybugs
Turkeys  geese
Cottoncandy watermelon
Carmels candy canes
Hot tea ice tea
Hot chocolate pop
Firecrackers full moon
Harvest moon big dipper
Dance in the season of
Your choice
For we are called to
Celebrate in the
Season called
Life

See the green grass
Waving in the breeze
When the roaring sound
Of the mower comes along
Let me say thank you
That I can hear
Smell of homemade bread
Throughout the house
Garbage in the alley
Let me say thank you
Touching petals on a rose
Different shapes of slime
Let me say thank you
Homemade cookies with
An exta crunch
A spice not to
My liking
Let me say thank you
For all that has
Been given
Let me be
Aware of their existence
Especially since some
May have none

Passed warning sign
Child sensory impaired
Would he miss the sound
Of cars zooming by
The repetitive sound
Of a basketball
The rustling of.leaves
And barking dogs
And screaming peers
As the school bus drops
Him off
And that's just the
Beginning of day
So many sounds to hear
But who is really
Sensory impaired
Do we hear the sound
Of our brother
When he is in need
Or listen to tear drops
Falling down one's  face
Or listening to children
Who cry in the dark
And birds that sing
Do we hear their song
Are we sensory impaired
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Serenity lies in.the
.morning walk ahead
A fountain in morning song
Still soft enough to hear
The snapping branch
Just enough moisture
For dew kissed sneakers
Birds in trees near by
Bursting into song
Dogs barking at their gate
Perhaps saying hello
Early morn is the time
To walk
Leftover smells of coffee and bacon
Making you want.to.
Invite yourself in
The sun peeping overhead
Not generating its total
Capacity of warmth
A sense of being alone
Without any responsibility
Except to complete the walk
No one to answer to
But yourself
And its all okay.
This moment of yours
Where only you
Can rule

Reflection on lake
Trees adorned in
Dead leaves that
Haven't touched
The ground
Houses with a sun deck
Birds flying over
Suddenly your shadow
Is cast
And somehow
Distorts the beauty
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Light casting shadows
On darkened walks
Making one larger
Then life
Could be eerie
Depending on where
You stand
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Light shadows
Dancing in the wind
Warming in the sun
Sunny figures
Dancing on the
Ground
Shadows disappearing
As the sun
Fades away

you broke me into
A million pieces
Perhaps you did me
A grave favor
Leaving me to pick up
The scattered pieces of
My life
All around lay remnants
Of my sordid past
What I hoped would
Never surface
Sadly appeared
Tears tried to clean
Up the sorry mess
To no avail
Perhaps it was a blessing
And I can begin anew

Men working

What about women
Saw men working sign my thought.about all the women in and outside the home
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
Silence is golden
Take a look through the blinds
Snow is falling
How quiet it is when snow starts falling.
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
Of all distractions
Irritating or just small
Silence is loud
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Silence is calling
Time to gather up my thoughts
And put them to use
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
Silence
Words in my various readings
So poetically I speak
In words of silence
Like the quiet sound
Of snow
Whispering her lullaby
Softly touching the ground
And silent fingers
Imprinted.upon the hand
That others might hear
Cooing sounds of baby
Discovering their toes
The whistling wind
Outside the frost stained glass
And the sound of soft sweet
Lips that can only come
From a mother's love
A father's  love as he kisses
Goodbye
A whistling kettle
Gentle slurps from tea
Angel dust all.around
To keep this moment
Of silence
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Listen for whispers
As snowflakes fall from the sky
Softly hit the ground
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2021
Just keep it coming
And than you want to know why
How did it happen
Mary Anne Norton Jul 2020
The soapy hands
The careful wash
No happy birtday song
Replaced by Glory Be to the Father
Carefully wash hands
While deep in thought
The longer the better
Prayed before Corona
Continuing to practice
Just noticed
Since when did  I stop
Glory Be to the Father
Did I get lax?
NOW.....
Is not the time !
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
Sing me a lullaby
So I can sleep
Away pain
Carrying me gently
To the land
Of Nod
Where I can
lay in a field of daisies
Under a Harvest moon
And quiet is all
Around
Except for the
Occasional tick tock
Of the clock
Sing me a lullaby
So I can
Go to sleep
And hope there
Is magic near
To ward off demons
Sing me a lullaby
In a whispering
Breath
Close the door softly
As you leave
To go home
Sky
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
Sky
Dandelion sky
Full of awesomeness to grasp
But too high to reach
SKY
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
SKY
The sky puts on
A show
Free admission
For those who
Look up
Soft clouds of tutu pink
And cottoncandy blue
And the sun
Banana yellow
With aquarium blue
Backdrop
The sight is
Astounding
Come back tomorrow
A new day full
Of surprise
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
My sister works
All day
Comes home
And works
All night
She helps others
In the day
To turn right around
Helping others
At night
Though it's hard
For.you  lying there
Doing nothing
For no one
Sleep baby sleep
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
Slowly I rocked
Without making a sound
   . ..Back and Forth
   .............Back and Forth
Thinking of
  ..TODAY
Thinking of
      TOMORROW
The rhythm has
Stopped
So have my
Thoughts

Mini cotton *****
Quickly falling from the sky
Covering the ground
Mary Anne Norton Feb 2022
What is it about winter
Sounds are magnified
Voices outside are louder

Barking sound of dogs
Echoing in the cold
Bitter winds blowing
Snow getting deeper and deeper

Frozen lakes and frozen hands
Chapped hands and lips

Silence comes
Over blankets
Of white

A crisp snow covered branch
A crunch in the snow
Waiting for a
New Day
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
The trees are bare
Having lost her
Garment of
Colored leaves
White glistening snow
Will soon
Be here to cover
Her up
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Snowflakes are falling
Faster and faster they fall
Till earth is covered
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Sky is silver white
The temperature is dropping
Looks like snow to me
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
The wind was sharp
Rattling against
The windows
Temperatures dropped
As I went to bed
With grass of green
When I awoke
To bitter cold
And  frosty windows
I sipped hot chocolate
And looked at the
White covered ground
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
Pale pinks and lavenders
In the snowy evening sky
Leaving shadows of
Brillance
On the.snow covered
Ground
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Silent whispers
Softly sung lullabies
Cats purring
Tongue wiping
After milk
Sweet goodnight
Kisses
As Momma tucks
You in
Daddy whispers
Good night
New falling snow
Tears falling
Softly Down your
Cheeks
Kindly close the
Door
And turn off
The light
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
The wind softly
Calling to me
As she whispers
Past my ear
But the thunder
In my head
Keeps me from
Answering
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
If I lay
Still in
The darkness
Of night
I can hear the
Rhythmic sound
Of the clock
I time in
My mind
The tic after the
Last tock
The soothing
Sound of
Chimes
Singing in
The wind
Even the
Churning of
My stomach
Making rounds
The yapping of
A dog far
Down.
The street
Stillness fills
The air
And an angel's
Sigh
Waiting to.
Be heard
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
So many words
Just floating through
My head
Can't make any
Sense of them
Not now
Any way
Perhaps i should
Let them be
Until they are
Ready to share
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Sometimes I feel
Like a lone duck
In the lake
Surrounded by water
And no one
To share it with
Other times I feel
Like a happy duck
Surrounded by water
And friends to
Share it with
Sometimes I feel
The sun
Reaching from the sky
Patting me dry
With her rays
Other times i.feel
The rain
Falling from the sky
Dancing off my back
Sometimes I feel
The leaves falling
From the trees
Tickling my bill
And someiles I
Feel the wind
Blowing at my feathers
Making me smile
And sometimes
