A cup of
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
My life floats before me
On A foamy cloudy cream
Where heated hands
Carress a cup
Big blobs of settling cream
Remind me of my
Should haves could haves
Would haves
As I shake the cup
Around for a new display
I see tiny droplets
Wait
Are those my tears

The gift of myself

Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Smiles dance upon
The  lake
Tiny bubbles happily
Glue together
Squirrels collecting nuts
For colder days
Ahead
Birds flying overhead
Enjoying the sky above
Runners with warm
Hoods on
Dogs leading their
Owners
And I just enjoying
Another masked day
In the park

Roses you heaped
Upon me
Flashy jewels
Shiny diamond hearts
Expensive perfumes
Silky scarves
Chewy chocolates
All of this
You gave to me
When all I wanted
Was a pumpkin
And some mums
None of this happened. Saw mums and pumpkins across the street. Just put my
Thoughts into words.

Geese are honking
Flying overhead
Time to.put
Dinner on
Owls are hooting
Time for bed
Roosters crowing
Time to get up
Cows are moo ing
Time for milking
Dogs barking
Waiting to be walked
While  cats purr
Waiting for milk
How do animals
Know what time
It is
What happens when

A new SUN
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
The storm washed away
The cheerful sun
Chalked brilliantly
On the concrete
Raining so hard
Not even traces
Of chalk remained
But the beauty is
An empty board remains
For a new sun to appear

Oh the sound of geese
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
I'm intoxicated by
The sound of geese
Flying over a sky
Of grey
Honking loud and
Strong
Echoing their happiness
Throughout the universe
I'm entranced by
The formation of geese
Now forming a vee
The freedom.they have
The grace they share
In flight
I'm grateful for the
Sound and flight
The movement I feel
As they pass over
My head
And leave me
In awe
As I wondrously
Stare at.
The sky
I watched the geese fly overhead this
Morning. It is such an awesome feeling.
To be alive and experience nature.

A Season for Change
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Sun shining through
Droplets of morning dew
On Autumn's leaf
Reminding me what
Season I'm in
Colors shining in and
Without my being
Vibrant oranges for
Happiness past
And yet to come
Brilliant yellows for
Warm memories
Long ago
And more to come
Blended leaves for
Joy and pain
And still will come
Autumn a season
For change
Within
     And
        .......Without

Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
January
Anew year awakens
New promises
Put to death
Grudges
Waiting for
February
New loves and
Sweet promises
March
New lucky.friends
And a grand month
To dance into
April
If not careful showered
Upon
But hopefully with
Joy not sorrow for
May
Flowers in the garden
Of friends
Awaiting the sunshine of
June
Fresh out of school
Ready to play till
July
Where friends ignite
Bright as colors of
August
Bittersweet and
Sad till
September
With learning
Something new
From each other
And
Awakening to
Colors.of friendship
Saving thanks for
November
A caunopia of friends
And the souls
Left behind and
Waiting for snowy days
In December
Where the gift of
Friendship  is shared
Each month has a
Story to share
With one another
As we grow and
Change with the seasons

Silence
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
Silence
Words in my various readings
So poetically I speak
In words of silence
Like the quiet sound
Of snow
Whispering her lullaby
Softly touching the ground
And silent fingers
Imprinted.upon the hand
That others might hear
Cooing sounds of baby
Discovering their toes
The whistling wind
Outside the frost stained glass
And the sound of soft sweet
Lips that can only come
From a mother's love
A father's  love as he kisses
Goodbye
A whistling kettle
Gentle slurps from tea
Angel dust all.around
To keep this moment
Of silence

Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Thinking of happy times
When cold days
Filled with laughter
Warmed the room
Of children
Where an ah ha moment
Came out of the
Mouth of kiddos
Jumping  with excitement
In their desks
Rays of sunlight
Beaming down on
Learning children
Hugs in solitaire
Or hugs in groups
Meltdowns and mishaps
Celebrations for success
A rainbow filled
The room with love
And left a *** of
Golden Treasure
Thinking about my students and the gift of memories they left behind for me to cherish

Go Away

From.yesterday's trash
Seems.like a good dinner
Empty pockets
Another day without

A baby lying
By the trash
And a bony dog
Sniffing their remains

Perhaps I should

And go outside
And do something

No leaves stirring

And hope

Cavities of tears long ago
Withered from pain

Takes an elevator

Use to use crutches

We
We are a team
I'm her legal guardian
And she's a part of me
When we are together

I push her wheel chair
But she's the one who
Gives me a push
Because of her
I am me
And she is she
And we are we
