The galaxy in

The Big Dipper
Ready to scoop up

Planets join in company
The moon lighting

And stars

Is there a
Black Hole
To hide these
All in

Nature's Hymn
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Bare feet touch
Warm concrete
In prayer
Toes wigggle in
Blades of grass
In Praise
Dirt stained fingers
In gratitude of
Moist soil and
A worm or two
Eyes squinting from
Radiant glow of sun
Blinking in heavenly rays
Well tuned ears
Awaiting the sounds
Of nature from earth
To sky
A thankful heart
With a joyful voice
Sings a Joyous song
To you oh
Heavenly Father

Tonight I miss you
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Tonight I miss you
And each and every day
Everything around
Is so a part of you
Christmas lights you
So enjoyed
The Charlie brown tree
You had in your room.
With dangling gifts
Of pencils and.small
Trinkets for
The nieces and nephews
To choose from
Yes even one for me
The Christmas gifts
Wrapped in newspaper
And you never knew
What you would find
Oh but for your
Laughter and stories
And love to
Last the whole
Year round
You are no
Longer with us
But your love
So deeply given
Will forever be
In our.hearts
To stay

And into the sky
Dedicated to my students, who don't realize how much they touched my Life

He ate His Last Supper
With His motley  crew
The Host a Shepard
Led to slaughter
Bread from a body
Baked with love
Wine from blood
To be out poured
They all shared this
In Holy Union
What one day would
Be Holy Communion
After supper the Heavenly Host
Would wash their tired
Stenchy worn feet
All for a kiss of Death
A blatant denial
The meal was over
They really weren't finished
To the garden he went
To continue to pray
As tears and blood
Flowed steadily to
Hallowed ground
His friends sleeping
Peacefully unknowing
What was ahead
Were they drunk
With the bitter taste of
Friendship on their lips
Or afraid to get up
On their fresh smelling feet
Let it be done in agony said
Snoring blocked out
What His friends
Should hear
But that didn't stop
A most brutal
Innocent death
Death became life
So we could live
Now and Forever
Amen I say Amen

Yesterday Today Forever
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
I walk around the park
Cognizant of the beauty
That enfolds me
Each day is a
New gift to unveil
Who knows what
Will.appear
Today a beautiful.
Blue Jay
Stared at me
From.a naked branch
Revealing a hidden
Shade of grey
And a vibrant
Shade of blue
Yesterday I heard the
Lake as she danced
In the wind
Who knows what
Tomorrow will bring
But I am ready
With open eyes
To see what I
Will find
And I can't forget
To send a thank you note
To my Creator
In my dreams

Handle With Care
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Be careful
Don't drop
Fragile
Handle with care
A box containing
Who knows what
Perhaps something of
Value
How often do we
Drop
Are fragile
Are we valued
Enough
To be handled
With care
just saw a box that said handle with care

Thoughts were of you
Then I forgot who
You were
I tried to remember
Who of who
Made me.laugh
Made me cry
And made me want
To dance and sing
Who picked up
The pieces.of
A broken mess
Or helped me with
My math as I struggled
Was it you
Tell me
It was long ago
I think it was
My heart is aching
And I want to say
Thank you
But tell me please
Tell me
Was it

Daddy
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Just tore at
My heartstrings
Little boy calling
Out to his adopted father
Daddy
Does he know he's adopted
Whether or not
He does.
Doesn't really matter
What matters
He is loved by
Someone he can call
Daddy
The little boy next door is adopted from
China as neighbors we just say hi in passing maybe slip in a word or two
But I heard those words and love for the
father made this poem for me perhaps into a prayer when i think of how much he is thriving because of Daddy and Mommy too

Little notes to soothe
Little treats to eat
Chocolate lava cake
To chase the blues away
Little Debbie Zebra cakes
To make me smile
.cherry pies wrapped in paper
"For rhe road "
I worked the day shift

With a promise of tomorrow
And a special treat or two

Why
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Why
Why do we wait
Until its too late
To actually stoop
Down
And pick up
A flower and
See if you are
Loved or not
And while your 'e
There
Pick up a leave
And touch the veins
Smell the grass
Touch the early morning
Dew
Feel the purring
Of a cat
Actually enjoy sitting
And watching
Shapes disappearing
In your coffee
Or cuddling your
Cup
For a warm sip
Of tea
Giving yourself permission
To fill a tub
With bubbles
Curl up and
Read a book
Listen to snap krackle
Pop from
Your cereal
Listen to jazz or opera
Crunching celery
Or carrots
Eating a cookie
Without the guilt
Taking time to
Pen to a
Long lost friend
Or write a poem
A story a lie
What will it take
Before it's
Too late

Sing me a lullaby
To sleep
Of words to dream
Before I sleep
As waves from the ocean
Come crashing through
Let me hear sounds
With your words
A walk in the sand
Whats it feel  like between
Concrete trodden feet
How about farm animals
Loud sounds low sounds
Speaking back to you
People here people there
People people everywhere
Or none ar all
Maybe a desert
Even a hermitage
A cell a bungalow
Smells from the
Open market
Fishy smells greasey smells
Rosy smells soapy smells
Do you bike it
Or hike it
Surf it walk it
Fly it ride it
Oh sing to me
Let thr lyrics flow
Hard times happy times
Get up and go times
Mmm can taste the food
Spicy bland aromatic
Are you happy or you sad
Lonely or surrounded
How's your spirit
Free flowing prayerful
Greatful empty
Wheres it put
A cathedral Church
Masque Temple
All within
Are you hot or cold
Morning  or night
I need some sleep
Dear Universe
Wrap me in your song

How do you know
Who to bully
Who to make cry
Till their well
Runs dry
Burn their soul
Till ashes are left
Leave bruises on
Their skin
And scars on
Their heart
Degrading so low
Making it hard
To get up
Do they wear a tag
Saying crush me
I'm yours
Or perhaps worn out
Clothes or nonbathed skin
From sleeping on the ground
What is the clue
Even geese  go after
An unsuspecting victim
How do they know
Who to taunt
With powerful wings
And fast webbed feet
Are we no less then
The animals

Sunlight
Waking me up
For a new day
A new slate
Washed clean from
Tears of night
Remainders on pillow
Thinking of you
The joy you brought
Into my heart
The laughter we shared
Rehearsing lines for
Plays you and I
Shared together
Money for bus fare
To the hospital
For visits and check ups
Secrets we shared
And kept inside
A hanky when needed
Your love for laughter
Your strength when
I was weak
Christmas time.
Any time
Stirs up memories
Of you
I thank you
From here below
To send to you

I place my Angel
On the tree
And you my angel
In my heart

Serenity lies in.the
.morning walk ahead
A fountain in morning song
Still soft enough to hear
The snapping branch
Just enough moisture
For dew kissed sneakers
Birds in trees near by
Bursting into song
Dogs barking at their gate
Perhaps saying hello
Early morn is the time
To walk
Leftover smells of coffee and bacon
Making you want.to.
Invite yourself in
The sun peeping overhead
Not generating its total
Capacity of warmth
A sense of being alone
Without any responsibility
Except to complete the walk
No one to answer to
But yourself
And its all okay.
This moment of yours
Where only you
Can rule

Distance came often
The phone would stop

Walking to support

Suddenly stopped
Hands washed thoroughly
Perhaps even till raw
Now it's quiet
