Head to rest
Words bubbling inside
A volcano of sorts
Ready to burst

Walking at a turtle's pace
Collecting my thoughts
Nature adorned in beauty
And telling sounds
Crackling.leaves beneath my feet resounding in prayer
An acorn falling
With a Great Amen
Animals in harmony
In such a melodious sight
Alleuiias abound throughout
With blessings

Heard songs from the past
Songs of demonstrations
Marching hearts peaceful
Hearts
With a message of love
Of hope oneness
Ironically what was being
Strongly sung then
Still continues today
"Where have all
The flowers gone
When will we ever learn"

Covid Insomniac
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Insomnia has awakened me
From the depths of sleep
Trying to sink deep
Within my covers
Stirring me awake
Grasping in the dark
For my glasses
Knocking down.a pile
Of books
Trying to make sense
From darkened sky
And room
What thought was it
This time to invade
My precious sleep
Might as well grab
Paper and pen
A book or two
And welcome this

Would I
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Would I have said yes
To be the mother of God
.would I have hidden in
The shadow of the
Angel's wing
Or perhaps seek.the
Shelter of Joseph
Was there a donkey
Nearby to ride and
Visit Elizabeth
What would I have done
The answer is clear
I am here
Ready to do
The will of God
Just not be a mother
For Mary is
Full ofGrace
And her yes
Would change generations
To come

Serenity
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Serenity lies in.the
.morning walk ahead
A fountain in morning song
Still soft enough to hear
The snapping branch
Just enough moisture
For dew kissed sneakers
Birds in trees near by
Bursting into song
Dogs barking at their gate
Perhaps saying hello
Early morn is the time
To walk
Leftover smells of coffee and bacon
Making you want.to.
Invite yourself in
The sun peeping overhead
Not generating its total
Capacity of warmth
A sense of being alone
Without any responsibility
Except to complete the walk
No one to answer to
But yourself
And its all okay.
This moment of yours
Where only you
Can rule

Words
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
I've been robbed
Words stolen from my
Aching heart
Erased from the passage
Of time
Can't get them back
They're gone forever

To catch the thief
Of a plotting mind

just words
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Penning words perhaps
Never meant to
Be written
Disappear when a phone call
Erases my thoughts
Perhaps they weren't meant
To be there
In the first place
But let me hang up
So I can try again
Oh words don't put
me on hold

Where my spirit will

Shattered
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
you broke me into
A million pieces
Perhaps you did me
A grave favor
Leaving me to pick up
The scattered pieces of
My life
All around lay remnants
Of my sordid past
What I hoped would
Never surface
Sadly appeared
Tears tried to clean
Up the sorry mess
To no avail
Perhaps it was a blessing
And I can begin anew

You can see all sides
Of me
But the bottom
Waiting to be revealed
To be set free
Must come at the right time
Feelings all around
And deep within
Just waiting to happen
Dare I make that move
Do I put.myself on
Display
Or stay buried
Deep within
Turn me all around
Seeing who I am
I hesitate to share parts
That belong only

Words don't take a rest
Rushing through your mind
Wanting to let go
Feelings bursting with
Newfound energy
Waiting to be released
To the unsuspecting world

Saddened words
Wanting a place
To land
But first they must
Be birthed

Sunday Mass
No priest choir more importantly
No  Holy Communion
Under the Species.of
Bread and Wine
Where is the offertory
The priest.offers Bread and Wine
Singing.and Prayers
I miss the quiet moments
Where God and I converse
This reminds me
Of childhood Mass
Where.ourAltar
A cardboard box was covered
With a sheet or towel
Grape juice and a piece
Of toast made circular
By my mom
One.brother was the priest
While two were servers
My sisters and I were
The congregation
Though both give offerings to God
There's  nothing like going
To the real celebration
Of Mass where we celebrate
Our Lord

Poetry
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
look at the word poetry
Poet try
How often have I tried
Placing words from
Deep within to the butcher block
Where unwanted words
Are hacked off
And with the remainder
Try to make sense at
What lies before me
Sparing no parts
I sharpen my pencil
Hurriedly grab some paper
Before  my thoughts
Get caught up in the netherworld

The valley of my soul
Ups and downs

Or do I hide
Amidst my shaken humanity
Never to be set free

You/ me
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
I look at your
Nail driven hands
And feet
Did they think you
Would escape
With whipped legs
And back
The crown You wore
Not of diamonds
But spikes
Driven into your head
Your face unrecognizable
From welts and spit
You hung with  love
So deep that
It lasts for eternity
Into your hands
I commend my Spirit
And may I do the same
With your dying
Love for me

just waiting
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020

Ready for something
To come out
The ink is dry
So are my words
The paper *** tossed
Clumsily upon the others
Perhaps I should wait

And paper to mark

After
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Death expectedly at the door
One exit we can't escape
But are we ready to let go
Let go of ourselves
Let go of you
The smell of you
Lingers on tear dropped
Clothing like fresh morning dew
No fragrance pure nature
Just like you
But universal stains of
Ink soil dried blood stains
Old can't get out
The wash stains
Essence of memories
Lovingly left behind
I cradle your blouse
And sniff at days
Lovingly gone by
Then prayerfully lovingly
Blow out the candle nearby
Saw someone sniffing clothes after someone died this same memory came back to me

Don't give me those
Sad puppy eyes
When you broke
My heart
Don't try to erase
My tears drip dripping
Down my face
Instead just quietly
Leave me behind

Sometimes my words are what I've seen from others

Early in the morn
Hours past that
I was unaware
Armed with my Bible
My notebook for poetry
Or thoughts that would occur
A peaceful time
Perhaps two or three
When souls are sleeping
And my heart is aching
For words to read and share
My radiator has since
Disappeared into new hands
Hope they find the magic
of warming your back
And cleansing your soul

When
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
When will guns disappear
And violence forever stopped
Love a houseword term
Spread throughout the community
Hands to shake
Not to cuff
A walk down the street
Without fear of being robbed
Talk of laughter
Not of violence
Can't we just go
One day without
Harming anyone
In body or soul
When can we join hands
And truly connect
Just written after another human being
Has been unjustly handled
Can't we just stop

Tranguility
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
How peaceful outside
Gentle breezes whispering
Silently past me
There's a calm outside
As the chimes soothingly
Sing a lullabye to me
I'm attuned to their rhythmic
Repetition
As i slowly inhale  exhale
Two harks joyfully encircle
The blue cotton candied
Clouds sugar coated
In God's  grace
What a symphony
Of love I just
Engaged in
Now for the encore
A Great Amen

Nature Calls
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
This morning I caught
Nature showing off
No holding back
Forest green grass
Still sparkling from
Morning dew
Geese honking hello
Snapping twigs across my path
The mist upon the water
The clouds of purple chiffon
Bright yellow flowers
Dancing in the breeze
What a sight to behold
If only we open our eyes
And feel with our heart
This morning on my walk I was blest
To experience nature at her best

How refreshing the smell
Of new rain
On the unsuspecting sidewalk
Where worms come
Out of hiding
Ready to shimmy
In the rain of Life
Birds fly high overhead
Children prepare to
Jump in newly formed puddles
Splashing with all their heart
Lift up your hands
Stick out your tongue
And catch a few drops
It won't last forever

Riches
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Don't have a pocketful of money
But a *** of memories
No name brands or
Painted toes and shiny nails
Have a kleenex
For a tear
And a song in my heart
You gave me all
That money can't buy
I'm the richest woman
In the world
You shared your wealth
With me
You couldn't talk
But you smiled at me
No walking but
A wheelchair you rode to me
A trembling hand
A three o'clock  hug
All of this and heaven too
That's why I'm banking
Just on you
I'm retiring as a special ed aide these thoughts came to my mind I miss the
Children already and its not

Mike 's robe
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
He wore his robe
When he was sick
He didn't have to
Tell us
He just put it on
Today ix the anniversary
Of his death
Tonight I will
Put it on
And take a magic
Carpet ride
I will.travel back in time
Where siblings bond together
Loving and yes maybe sometimes
Even fighting
He wasn't a fighting kind of guy
So not many
Playing hard with his brothers
Teasing his sisters
As he grew older.
Acting and writing
Were his song
When he no longer could drive
We went to Dr. Visits
On the bus
But we always had fun
So tonight
I will put your robe on

A.nd let you  wrap
me with your wings
in back back

Sing me a lullaby
To sleep
Of words to dream
Before I sleep
As waves from the ocean
Come crashing through
Let me hear sounds
With your words
A walk in the sand
Whats it feel  like between
Concrete trodden feet
How about farm animals
Loud sounds low sounds
Speaking back to you
People here people there
People people everywhere
Or none ar all
Maybe a desert
Even a hermitage
A cell a bungalow
Smells from the
Open market
Fishy smells greasey smells
Rosy smells soapy smells
Do you bike it
Or hike it
Surf it walk it
Fly it ride it
Oh sing to me
Let thr lyrics flow
Hard times happy times
Get up and go times
Mmm can taste the food
Spicy bland aromatic
Are you happy or you sad
Lonely or surrounded
How's your spirit
Free flowing prayerful
Greatful empty
Wheres it put
A cathedral Church

All within
Are you hot or cold
Morning  or night
I need some sleep
