My owner is a good man,
He loves to take me for long walks.
Although he keeps me on a leash for my safety,
He lets me be free,
To snoop around bushes and flower beds,
For two things I have learned,
Not to be curious,
And stay clear of people who are afraid or not like dogs.
I let a loving hand scratch my ears and ruff,
Especially young pretty ladies,
So my owner can make friends with them,
I love to lick their faces and hands to show my appreciation.
At the beach I love to run along the golden sand,
Chase seagulls to the water's edge,
Or up to the sky.
Some children throw sticks,
And I play fetch with them,
Outrunning the wind.
I understand my owner's feelings,
When his affairs don't go well,
Instead of pestering him to take me for a walk,
I look up at him and sympathise,
I cuddle up to him,
Rest my head on his lap to say,
"Don't worry I'm here for you.'
