Flowers
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2020
Flowers have been my companions through the journey of life,
When I was born the hospital room was filled with flowers,
And on my christening,
My birthdays,
My engagement,
My wedding
My anniversaries,
And when I die my grave will be covered with flowers.

First Stab Of Love
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2020
When I first I saw you,
I truly understood,
Why people crave to see the sunset,
My heart was a blaze of colours,
With silver stars twinkling in my eyes.

Clumsy
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2020
My heart is clumsy,
It has two left feet,
It has a way of falling,
As waves rise and fall in the ocean.
Useless words spill from my mouth,
Scattering across the floor.
Let me kiss you,
So I can paint all my feelings for you vividly.

A Good Marriage
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2020
I look at myself in the mirror,
Aged and a widow,
Living by myself.
Then I saw photos of my married life,
My eyes sparkled,
Reflecting laughter and mischief,
And there was my husband,
Always teasing and fighting,
But we couldn't live without each other,
He was a promise I would have a friend forever,
Sadly he had to go before me,
But he left a treasure of sweet memories behind.

Moses urged Mohammed to beseech Allah to reduce the prayers.

Golden Decade
Salmabanu Hatim Oct 2020
In your twenties,
Soar like a bird,
Carefree,
Travel,
Explore,
Let your fingers be in every pie,
Throw worries and caution to the wind,
Be selfish with your time and what you have,
Love a lot,
Gather beautiful memories for future,
Live every moment.

Salmabanu Hatim Oct 2020
Early morning,
As I sit outside under the mango tree,
With a hot cup of coffee to start my day,
A bird tweets at me,
Giving me its opinions about me
and how we are destroying nature,
Then all the birds in the same tree join in with their own comments,
Some are raucous in their opinions,
Others just give a tweet or two,
And the rest give a laugh emoji.
I think the birds have opened a Twitter account in my mango tree,
Daring me not to cut it.

Man has one unique thing,
Intelligence,
Use it,
Go to the moon,
Visit Mars.
Indulge in ,
Advanced Technology,

Be successful in your field.
But don't forget your Creator,
Who gave you your intelligence,
Or can take it back.

Fake people
Salmabanu Hatim Oct 2020
Be careful about fake people in your life,
They say something and mean something else.
Their smile never reaches their eyes,
Trust their actions not their words,
For sometimes you never know a fruit is rotten until you open it,
And find a worm inside.

The Thorn
Salmabanu Hatim Oct 2020
She was a beautiful rose,
Soft, glowing and evolving
Nurtured by the love of the sun
And kindness of the rain.
Her father was the crown of thorns,
Harming those who would steal his blossom.
Until one day someone craved for the rose,
And he dared grasp the thorn to pluck her.

I Never Could
Salmabanu Hatim Oct 2020
I could never ride a bike,
Cause I could never maintain my balance on it.
My dad told my mum never to tell me to make tea,
For I would spill the milk, put too much in tea or leave it on the stove till it dried.
I never learned to light a primus (kerosene stove),
For if I did my mum would tell me to heat food .
After marriage I learned to drive a car,
But I never drove one,
For my mind was so full of things that I would forget to switch off the engine,
My husband thought a driver was better for me.
Spring rolls are my favourite snacks,
But, I don't know how to fold them,
So I got an idea,
It's not  the shape that matters,
It's the taste that counts,
So I fill them in samoosa pastry ,
And have samoosa spring rolls.
