Poetry(Writer's Block)
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
He sat there solemnly,
With a piece of paper and his lucky pen,
Burning candles till dawn
Not a word yet in his mind,
The paper blank.
He opened his window to let in the fresh morning breeze,
He saw the sun rise slowly,
The sky blissful and blushing,
The birds chirping in their nests,
The butterflies fluttering around the morning dew petals,
Blossoming to the morning glory.
His thudding heart bloomed too,
Handcuffs unlocked,
Brimming with an ocean of emotions,
Filling the mind with lyrical words and thoughts,
And out poured from his soul the most beautiful poetry.

The Moon
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
As I stepped out of the front door to meet my fiance,
The cheeky full moon followed me,
Hiding behind clouds,
Blushing sweetly.
It lighted my senses,
Magic touched my soul,
The sky blissful.
My fiance and I agreed to have a romantic dinner under the enticing  moonlight,
Feeling love for each other over and over.

REGRETS
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
My worst regret in life,
Which still hurts the most,
Is sending my children for further studies abroad.
They NEVER  came back,
Got married and settled there,
Leaving me bereft of their closeness,
And joy of grandchildren.

Find Joy
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
Make the eye laugh when it is about to cry,
Give a bit of your heart and not a piece of your mind,
Share happiness with your laughter and not drown in sorrow
Lighten other's heart with your smile,
Be a candle in their darkness,
Share all the love you have in You.

Dadima
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
Dadi in Gujarati means grandmother,
Father''s mother
And daddy is father pronounced the same.
When my granddaughter was four she refused to call me Dadi,
Insisting her daddy was my son.
Tears swelled in her eyes,
So I pacified her,
I told her I was her daddy's mother so she could call me Dadima.
So I am Dadima to my son's children,
And  Nanima to my daughter's  children.

I won't let anything happen to you,
Hold on,

Glad For Lockdown
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
My ego burst during lockdown,
My wife is a housewife,
I bring home a fat salary,
The breadwinner.
I felt my wife did little at home,
And I complained all the time demanding attention.
All that changed when I stayed at home during lockdown,
I realised being a homemaker is a multitask,
A 24/7 job with no leave or bonuses,
Why my children are so close to their mother than me,
Her gifts their hugs and laughter and sometimes praise from me,
I respect my wife's  career and am glad for lockdown.

Food
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
As a child mother fed me what she thought was best for me,
I had no choice though I sometimes rebelled.
As a youth I tasted platefuls, with varieties ,
My food, my choice.
In middle age I was mostly on diet,
Nibbled my food and exercised,
After all I wanted to stay youthful.
Now in old age my dear daughter-in-law  is strict with my diet
I have no choice,
But if you see a light in our fridge it is me looking for that sweet something.

To top it when we have visitors which is often,

"I Hate You"
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
Words spoken by my teenage daughter,
Just because I am strict and not easy on her.
My love,you haven't a clue,
Why I am ******* you,
For the path you have taken,
I have already trodden.
Don't be angry on the lines I draw,
I hope you will in time understand me so.
Don't judge me dear,
Where you are heading is what I fear.
To stop you heading the wrong path I must my child,
Less you turn wild.

Clever Old Man
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
An old man had three sons,
All selfish and self centred,
Their wives sailed in the same boat,
They kept the old man in the hope of inheriting his fortune,
They had heard the old fellow mentioning about it to his friend,
A clever ruse so the children would not send him into a Home.
On his death bed the old man's last words were"I have hidden one million dollars under the........
They are still looking for it.

My Daughter
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
She is as beautiful as sunset,
Her cheeks two peaches,
With brown eyes like melting chocolate,
And a smile like glowing sunshine.
Kind and loving,
A look at her would remind you of a fragile flower,
But that is her facade,
She is a woman of power and great inner strength,
Hardworking and self dependent,
She is a fragile bomb.

Last One
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
My older brother is most handsome,
The one younger than him is a sportsman.
Then come my two sisters,
The elder is confidant and best cook,
People crave for her dishes,
The second is most beautiful.
They have swooped all the good traits of our parents,
I am left with nothing,
Neither looks nor talents,
A speck in a crowd,
Someone told me to be just myself,
And I am happy whatever I am.

You left me instead heartbroken. 😭💔

My Grandmother
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2021
Whenever my brother and I as kids wanted a second helping grandmother was there to fill the plate,
And if we were grounded she would sneak food into our room.
If something needed to be repaired by dad mum would tell grandmother,
The job sure got done the same day.
We too used grandmother for things we needed dad to buy for us.
Dad adored his mum,
For him she was his temple,
And grandma only wanted us to be a happy family,
She treated mum as her own daughter.
Grandmother had her gentle ways,
Her beautiful smile and her kind words captured your heart,
You could not deny her anything.
