The Art Of Eye Contact
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
Lies with women,
With one look she can relay the most intimate message,
And when the eyes connect,
Words cease,
Two souls start talking.

At Peace
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
As I gazed at the ocean before me
I felt it remove all my bad moods.
And further I saw the waves pounding against the rocks,
Sensed my worries ebbing away slowly.
A smile lightened my face,
Peace and calm blanketed my soul.
The grainy sand beneath me made me realize life is after all not a smooth journey.

Silence
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
The language of God,
When you pray with belief and good faith,
HE answers without words.
HE fulfills your prayers if they are meant for you,
Otherwise HIS silence is for your good,
Or the time to grant your wish is not right,
HE always does things for a reason.

Piece Of Her Mind
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
My mum is a quiet person,
A woman of few words,
But, that day a storm broke out.
I was rude to mum,
In defiance and refusing to listen to her,
She lashed out words sharp as a knife,
She threw a piece of her mind at me,
It was spicy, full of Indian curry and chillies,
I stood frozen, aghast,
Each word spit at me was the truth,
Ashamed, I muttered a quick sorry and fled to my room.
Her spicy speech gave me diarrhoea and I vowed never to cross her path again.

Funny Poem
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
A dead girlfriend and a dead boy friend made love,
After thirty minutes she became  pregnant.
The girl's deaf father heard this and killed the dead boyfriend,
and the dead girlfriend,
If you don't believe me ask the blind girlfriend's mother,
She saw everything and is at the funeral home.

Stand On Their Own Feet
Salmabanu Hatim Mar 2021
That's what I taught my children,
I wasn't a wall around them,
I gave them windows and a door,
To let in the sunshine of love in their life,
The gentle breeze of kindness,
To stand up to the storm of hatred and jealousy,
To sow their roots deep down,
And like a tree stand upright,
To face all challenges in life.
When they learned to take,
I explained to them it is also rewarding to give and share.
When they were bullied in school,
I told them not to give in and fight back,
They came back bruises several times but in the end it stopped.
I also taught them to be humble, try to earn trust and respect with the right attitude,
But, nobody is perfect,
We tend to sway in life under circumstances.
My children are on their feet,
And they too have some flaws.

If I were a widow,
And if I were to marry,
I would marry a retired soldier than any other jolly.
For he would fight and I would fight,
And we would fight together,

And if I were to marry,
I would marry an old chef than any other jolly,
For he would butter me up,
And I would butter him up,
And we would butter each other up,
Ow! Lovely!
If I were a widow,
And if I were to marry,

And he would sing,
And I would sing,
And we would both sing under the moonlight,
How romantic.

Salmabanu Hatim Feb 2021
After you left me heartbroken,
I let the tears fall freely,
Soaked tissues tossed in the bin,
The box empty.
I also let the door of my heart open,
So that pain could exit.
I felt better,
I showered, dressed and went out to party with my friends,
I love myself too much to pine for something not meant for me.

To All Children
Salmabanu Hatim Feb 2021
Take time to listen truly listen to your parents,
Have patience,
Find time in your busy life to sit with them,
You will communicate your love and respect more than unspoken words.
And when you have learnt to listen,
You will feel their vibes,
Their love for you,
Their need to be with you,
To hear your voice,
To feel your presence.
Don't start rattling a long list of things of what to do and what not to do,
Like a child they will be confused,
Don't find faults with them,
Sometimes they may spill things or leak on the carpet,
Deal with them as they did with you,
Be kind and attentive to your parents,
Don't leave them ALONE when they need you.
Your parents are your responsibility,
Don't throw the burden on others so they  tend to be neglected,
Nor listen to spouses who may nag and make you go against them,
Whilst they look after their own.
Remember being indifferent to your parents,
And neglecting your duties towards them leaves you a sinner and answerable to Allah in Afterlife.
No matter what situations arise fighting for the welfare of your parents is as good as fighting for the cause of Allah.
DO TO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD WANT OTHERS DO TO YOU.

Gardening,
And listening to soft music on your mobile.

While the pigeon coos in the tree
with its nestling.

As beautiful,
As writing poetry.

Sew My Heart
Salmabanu Hatim Feb 2021
My heart is torn apart,
Ripped into rags,
I have nothing to offer you.
But, with you I feel gentle calm over me,
A desire to move forward urges me.
I need you to stitch my heart,
Zigzag it,
Embroider tiny flowers over the scars,
So I only know they exist,
And I can start my life anew with you my gentle dove.
