Take a bow for taking a knee.
We want to thank you for being woke
After falling asleep in the land of the Free;
(The punchline to your own lame joke.)
Y'all so WOKE I bought you an alarm clock.

dusted sunlight
peeks through the cracks
of the old weathered barn

tractor oil
and freshly baled hay
permeate the warm country air

hoot owl, and swallows
whisper from the
overhead beams

guinea hens scamper ~
to the graceful
rolling fields
Subtle

~for Sally~

there is no escaping it.

to write of subtle,

one must be blunt,

forthright,

direct,

write with no subtlety.

there is no way, impossible, to capture the fine single threads required
to weave a tapestry of bold and delicate intertwined, of depth and
surface, of a droplet of water shining outstanding in a sea of harsh
blather.

there is bold, there is pale. they can coexist, perhaps even
heighten each other.

but subtle is a delicacy, a single thread, a standard rarely achieved.

which is why this poem makes no pretense at subtlety.

The edge
Where this
Meets that
This is where you stand
And it cannot feed any longer
That is only a step away
But in that one step
There are a thousand increments
The car, the cats, the money, the apartment, the friends, the families, the pain, the selfishness, the tears, the doubt, the time, the love....

The rains wash the limbs
Dripping from fingers
I feel it seep into your souls
The sky gods love you
Even more this morning

You waste not one drop
That which you do not need
You share with the soil
With the children
With mother

There is such peace
Watching as you bathe
This unison of elements
And so I cleanse myself
Into all of this....

It is a pause that allows a summation of
All that you have been and all that you will be
Drawing together every breath and dream
Only at the fingertips of your existence
Not in grasp... but to touch
A knowing
Be this beauty
Long live Bangladesh
Long live!
Your nature is ever fresh
I believe...

O my country, I love you
Give me love,
Make me true,
O my clime, I do love you!

You're my motherland
You're my only soul
You're my only goal
O you're my right hand.

I learned with your love
You're lovely, you're a sweetie
I dreamed with your beauty
All I got, what you have.

O my land, I never scorn you
You're evergreen
You're my heaven
I always, always dream of you!
