Like other cities, Glendale annually receives funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for federal grant programs that support social services, housing and community development.
On Wednesday April 30, the city invited residents to a community meeting at the Adult Recreation Center to provide input on its proposed FY 2025-2030 Consolidated Plan and FY 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
"The Annual Action Plan identifies the proposed social services, capital projects, homeless services, and housing and neighborhood programs that will serve community needs for low to moderate income families," the city's website states.
An initial kick-off community meeting in October 2024, attended by more than 120 people, gathered feedback from residents on their priorities for programs they wanted to see Glendale implement using the incoming federal HUD funds. Maggie Kavarian, community services manager, said the action plan should go to the Glendale City Council for approval in June, and that the city expects to receive a final funding allocation from HUD by mid-May.
At a meeting on Wednesday, Kavarian reassured the few residents in attendance that the city's HUD federal monies can only be used for programs that benefit the city of Glendale.
