Standing on precepts ledge
Adolescence in youth
About to take the fall
Into the hardened truth

Oblivious to the pain
With a mighty hunger for free reign
If given half a chance
How many would do it all again

From the setting of one sun
Into another's horizon
Soon enough to be battle worn
In a war that's never won

Where the best that you can find
Overhead is empty sky
To late in to realize
You're no more than weary wise

Is it a life that's lived on lies
Or a different version of the truth
Precepts ledge is often high
For the adolescence of youth

Traveler
On the edge of consciousness
Were slumbering creeps
I climb out the tunnel
Up from a deep sleep

Layers of unrest
Madness and fears
On the outskirts of bad dreams
And all my nightmares

A flash in gray matter
The heart starts to race
Thoughts try to trap me
In fits of dream rage

When my eyes finally open
I shake it all off
Pushing back into forgetfulness
All the battles I've lost

With broken glass on the floor
Broken promises one and all
If they'd learned to read
They'd have seen the written on the wall

But nothing's here to change
From cradle to the grave

In a worn out trailer park
On a worn out side of town
They thought that things would be different
Than where they are right now

On their planed escape
From cradle to the grave

Crowned High school sweethearts
The righteous King and Queen
With his fist now as his scepter
In her reality

Who's keeping the wolves at bay
From cradle to the grave

Drinks his breakfast, lunch, and dinner
From out a paper cup
Used to dream for desert
But this town ate that up

Wasting away
From cradle to the grave

The only blessing offered them
Was their Louisiana child
But watching her parents interact
She never learned to smile

Another one on her way
From cradle to the grave

No need for a future
If they even had one at all
So far down in the ditch
It's so hard to recall

With the only thing left to say
From cradle to the grave
Though with a pencil,
You must draw something
And that will be what you can achieve

Consistency in any thing
Is what makes you greater
The day I came out of the closet
Was the day that freedom rang
Stepping up to bat with the fact
That something had to change

While some may call me a *****
A girly girl among men
It is well worth all of that hurt
To enjoy this life style I live

Guaranteed I don't look any differently
At a glance you'd never know
I still have the smile I've had all this while
And I don't wear flamboyant clothes

I still talk with a Southern draw
Without the slightest hint of a lisp
If you're looking for a difference
You'd be hard pressed to find what it is

But I'm waving the banner proudly
In case you didn't know it
For all the world to see that yes this is me
Out of the closet I proudly am a poet
