she does not notice
the way her tummy rumbles
or how her eyes lost their sparkle

she does not care
that her skin is pale,
veins appearing from within

she does not worry
that her strength is withering,
shaky hands whenever they move

she does not bother
eating a meal, or three
falling asleep or waking up

she does not care
that her time is ticking,
pieces of sand falling one by one

she does not know
who she is, where she went,
what happened to the flush of her cheeks

she does not remember
who she used to be,
but she misses her dearly.

late night drive
Shauna Bergeron Feb 2019
wonderous gazes upon moonlit skies
and speeding cars down star lit roads
weaving through fears
crashing into doubts
guardrails aren’t guards, but welcome mats to another world
bent metal and burning flames
tear streaked cheeks and broken bones
sigh of relief, last sign of life
wings opened, smiles wide
warmth on my face
the sun is mine
another place
my home is the sky
moon under my feet
sun in my eyes
no other place for me
besides where my body lies
