 Feb 2014 The Flipped Word
Jack
I never meant to hurt you
I never meant to lie
I never meant to break your heart
I never meant to make you cry

I never meant to be a fool
I never meant what I did say
But what I never meant the most
Was to lose a friend today
I am so sorry
If you come as softly
As the wind within the trees
You may hear what I hear
See what sorrow sees.

If you come as lightly
As threading dew
I will take you gladly
Nor ask more of you.

You may sit beside me
Silent as a breath
Only those who stay dead
Shall remember death.

And if you come I will be silent
Nor speak harsh words to you.
I will not ask you why now.
Or how, or what you do.

We shall sit here, softly
Beneath two different years
And the rich between us
Shall drink our tears.
How do I reach out to you
when you are unreachable.
How do I tell you it
will all be alright.

How do I touch your soul
when you are untouchable.
How do I catch you
when you fall from flight.

How do I carry you when
this situation is so unbearable.
How do I make you look at me
so our love can reignite.

How do I apologise
for standing by your side.
How do I make you understand
that your touch, your love, is my light!

Its the day after Valentine's
And cupid did not come
I waited at my bedroom door
I had bullets in my gun

I waited until midnight
Until today rolled around
Thinking that with just a chance
I would see and knock him out

I was just going to scare him
For all he put me through
Then ****** seemed a better choice
When I had a drink or two

I thought I saw a bunny
Plus a tiny green elf
But cupid did not raise his head
Afraid to show himself

At one point I saw Santa
There were raindeer on my roof
I heard a turkey chuckle
Giggling Gobblins were afoot

It's the day after Valentine's
And Cupid did not come
He gets maybe one more year
Then Cupids days are done

In the dead of night
When the lights are out,
And the world is asleep,
It's a wonderful sound.

Hear the softness around you,
The light crackle and pop!
Its finally quiet--
Though one voice doesn't stop.

It leaves a faint echo
That doesn't easily fade.
Instead, grows in its intensity
Little by little each day.

I call him my friend
Born out of the shadows.
Or is he the fiend,
Waiting to devour

My mind, body, and soul?
Hes coming quite close
For in the dead of night,
There are things I still don't know..

They lurk along the darkened walls
Plotting with twisted faces
Longing to reach out and touch me
And leave their cursed places

But oh, my shadow friend,
You greedy little thing!
He lets none close enough
For I to feel them breathe.

And he'll hover so near me,
Right above my lonely bed,
Whispering softly in my ear-
He's getting to my head..

And just when I decide
To give his words a chance,
The sun starts to rise.
I'm free again at last!

Oh, my shadow friend,
You torment my mind why?
Is it of loneliness? Love?
Or are you just waiting for me to die?

Slowly and surely,
I'll wither away
Then and only then,
*I'll finally let you stay
