My Shadow

by @nicki-williams

My shadow follows me Listens to my whispers by lending a deaf ear Its presence gives comfort But its the absence I fear Powerless to make it stay At the same time it's me myself who pushes it away The sun comes out and it's forced to stray And completely vanishes when its' realized love is no longer child's play I'm left dismayed shattered and afraid Longing for a shadow that I can't even embrace
