the funding for scientific research
has had a pruning of late
lab trials cannot be taken off
the government's slate

the men in the treasury office
have got their reckoning wrong
budgets mustn't be skimmed
so valuable research can prolong

discovering an effective remedy
for a diseases or ailing plight
is something that doesn't happen
at the speed of light

it takes years to develop
a drug treatment which will heal
and our medical researchers
require a better budgetary deal

a shortfall in funding
shall impair the researcher's vital work
sustain government support
is needed for them to accomplish their work

without a handsome pledge
research teeters on the edge
