The day we first met
Was a day filled with pain.
Much was lost that day,
But even more was gained.
No longer part of me,
And yet you were all mine.
I see me in you,
Yet you’re one of a kind.

Watched you growing fast,
Minutes turned into years.
I cheered your victories,
And helped to wipe your tears.
Band-aids and laughter,
Learning sadness and joy.
Always proud of you
Because you were my boy.

And now another
Memorable day is here.
I watched for this
– Knew it would soon appear.
My emotions mixed,
Heart full of tearful joy.
Adding a daughter,
Letting go of my boy.

Once more much is lost
But even more is gained.
I’m letting go
But my love hasn’t waned.
No longer mine, yet
Always a part of me.
Now she’s a part of you
And one you’ll always be.
