Have you ever seen a snake with her children?
It was a disturbing sight.
I often think I imagined it
that foggy day, when the mist’s soot
must have filled my eyes.
Yet I saw it so vividly,
as if a dark image half dream, half waking
had appeared before me,
and it was no illusion!
