I remember the medics telling me
that they would not help my brother in Arms
because he was a *****
and I hated them and wonder why
I fought for the Union

They are as brave as me
and full of goodness and delivery
how dare my own army reject them
on creed or colour
they fought for the Union

If Captain I was to be known
I am proud of my black brothers
warriors one and all
for the freedom of slave hood
to the glory of the Union
