The Knife In My Back

Hey you Marion, a charade you are
I trusted you a friend
You did what you did and you’re
Gone and I’m still here in the end

Everybody saw a country pumpkin
You were wonderful in their eyes
Nobody ever knew the evil beneath
The skin of your elaborate disguise

Then one day it came to be
I was able to get a closer look
I saw the Demon inside as clearly
As the illustrations in a book

You didn’t like yourself for your slip
So you tried quickly to ruin me
I didn’t get a chance to expose
The Truth and let everyone see

You decapitated my reputation with
One drop of the blade of a guillotine
Then you disappeared without a trace
Never again to be seen

So I was just the last victim
From another cowardly attack
I survived the damage done but
I’ll never forget The Knife In My Back
