It’s not the fall
that breaks—
it’s the slow descent
of our horizons,
the moment between
what we once held
and what has slipped
through our fingers—
our efforts
unmoved by regret
and broken
from remorse.

Not that it matters—
down here
everything
scatters the same
but
we will all
be judged differently.
