You turn away with eager stride,
Chasing the light on the other side.
Where voices soften, the hands grow still,
As you seek what your world can't fill.

A smile, a laugh, a fleeting bond?
The threads of love that twist and bend.
When ties you know, you left behind,
For something new that stirs your mind.

The past you leave, the present call,
And yet they wait, through rise and fall.
But selfish,  you pursue the night,
Never looking back at the fading light.

In time you may look, and there you'll see,
How much you lost, how much could be.
But for now, the chase feels sweet,
As you run through the streets that never meet.
Don't come back running to what you have left behind.
