the martyr
the arrow found its mark
pierced chamber'd heart
then another spear
was ****** from ear to ear
in agony he fell
no tongue to talk to tell
hovering o'er hell
he hears the soundless knell
staring at death
lying in gutter
with final breath
he gives final utter
spirit aflutter
blood a-splutter
a whisper, intimate,
to all-loving Infinite
forgive them for they know not
they know not what they do
they're held in clasp of despot
who tells them what to do
they're like a newborn baby
with bairn's transient innocence
afflicted with the rabies
as the madman's ignorance
then as blood drained away
he took the higher road
he took his leave from form of clay
and entered new abode
