We think we go
deep

but most of the time
we skim

the surface of things

notions ideas
philosophies

and other wise

the night might've been
ink from the base

of the well but
the moon

cast a silver light
that accentuated

the checkerboard pattern
of branches

notice I said checkers
and not chess
