Aug 2019
Behind the rocks in the searing sun
The bullets ricochet off the parched ground
And I pray inwardly to survive just one more day
My men around me, brothers in arms and proud
To serve their country boldly,
With unrelenting bravery in the pits of hell
We soldier on.
And then there's tomorrow when we return home
No more death or destruction, the loss of more friends
At peace with my loved ones
Until the next time.
No longer the hero, no time to adjust; Forgotten
But give me tomorrow.
