you were more
than the mayhem of letters
displaced in a word
that slipped and rode
from syllable to syllable
on the tip of my tongue.

you were more
than the amorphous utterance
I blurted at midmorning
in the futile hope
that you would notice
how much I meant it.

you were more
than a singer could sing
or a painter could paint
the lucid core
of my labyrinthine feelings
escaping my tangled words.

you were more
than every scrawled page in my diary
than the path to my heart
or the strength of my soul
than the cosmos and the stars
my universe in a person
you were my poetry:

and that is more than anyone can ever be.
I don't know how this poem came to be. I don't usually write poems that don't rhyme nor do I ever type poems in the process of writing them. I always prefer to scrawl out my thoughts on papaer and give them shape. But I randomly started typing on my mac one day and ended up with this. I didn't know what to do with it so I just signed up for a poetry website my friend recommended and whew here it is :)
