I’ve been nestled in the den
Of the dove and the hen
I’ve seen their coos of love,
I despised that hen and dove.

I’ve seen the warmth and light;
The glare was just too bright.
I shrank away to the frozen gloom
And relished awaiting my doom.

Days and months, months and years
I spent too afraid to admit my fears;
Accustomed with cold, light scared me,
That cruel harsh light of the free.
