I'm sorry
for being in a pit of despair.

I'm sorry
for not knowing how to repair.

I want to rest
but the devil knows
something
I cannot tell.

It haunts me
to the ends of the world.

It is completely
devouring my soul.

I am weary.
I need to rest.

I'm so sorry
for not being able to tell.
Poem based on one of Francisco Goya's "Black Paintings". Originally painted on the walls of his house, it was not meant to be published for the public eye. Years after his death, 14 dark paintings were recovered from the walls. They depict Goya's turmoil for his faith in the Spanish society as well as for his own deterring mental and physical state. While "Saturn Devouring His Son" is a depiction of the Roman myth of Saturn fearing his sons overtaking him, it also reveals the insanity of Goya, and how he engraved it into the confines of his own home.
