From whence came this summer breeze
that makes the flowers  now seem to dance
and from my heart with natural ease
as formed this need to know romance
may summer fair be just the tease
to taunt my soul to take the chance
and may I learn from birds and bees
that your love is mine perchance

So whence er' this breeze of summer came
and soft awoke my soul with song
to speak in rhyme your given name
that flits with wings from gentle tongue
and knows no fears of sin nor shame
for love so right can ner' be wrong
as tindling now is put to flame
to burn for you my whole life long
