Suddenly she wakes alert,
Her senses keen, she stares,
What does she see that I can't?
The tension raises hairs.

Focused, stealthy, she hunts the prey,
Staring, sniffing wide and vast,
She catches - mashes - the mouse to death,
O sweet this child of Bast.
