He excelled, but at each level he struggled
trying to elevate himself to new heights.
That ambition burned him,
even when it earned him
what he thought he was due
higher wages, better benefits, and more things
so, every day he stayed
at a job, he truly hated.
Every heartbeat aggravated
by wanting more and more
until he collapsed on his office floor
barely even mourned.

I worked but seldom succeeded
making enough to get what I needed
and enjoying what I had.
Though his stone was big
I left an almost omnipresence of positivity
with every stranger who met me,
so I die contently.
