A calm dusk
Rolls over the hills
Bringing the world
Into a quiet night

A distant owl calls
From deep with the woods
Signaling the animals
To return to its borders

The trees whistle gently
Swaying back and forth
As a curtain of black
Descends over the sky

And then there is silence
Or at least a different form of sound
As the hum of small creatures
Fills the now still night

The world is at rest
And in its sleep it dreams
Of things that were
And things that will be

The dawn will come
Though far off it be
For now the world sleeps
Below the shimmering stars
