as the New Year
is fast drawing near
one shall be making
a resolution for that year
the resolution I shall make
isn't yet quite clear
but I will make one
as the New Year draws near

one year I was going
to watch my weight
and go on a diet so I could
fit through the cow shed gate
but that resolution
went by the wayside
and my backside is still
fifteen axe handles wide

is making a New Year's
resolution mandatory
or can I exclude it
from my history
with so many resolutions
I've made in the past
none have ever
being made to last
