luggage tenses
petrichories Feb 2015
your past isn't a suitcase; you need to stop carrying it with you everywhere you go.
and your future? regard it as hand luggage. don't forget that it is there but be sure to carry it lightly
now for your present. it's the suitcase, one you pack yourself and it is up to you what is in it. i would encourage you to prepare for the holiday of a lifetime though
i hate this title but honest to god can't think of anything else

when people tell you that you are 'important' they do not mean important to the entirety of space and time and existence and everything that has ever been and ever will be. because we both know well enough that the sun will rise without your eyes to admire it. the oceans will grow and recede without your weary feet to marvel at how it makes you feel young again. the bones in the ground will continue to decay without you to contemplate the beauty of life or mourn its passing. the stars wouldn't die and the flowers wouldn't wilt and life would go on as if you had never graced it.
what they mean is; you are important to their own existence. the sunrise would mean nothing to them without your eyes holding it captive alongside theirs. the ocean could retreat into a crack in the ground or flood the earth and they would not care if you were not here to weep for it. the bones in the ground would decay but it would feel like theirs were doing just that. the stars in their sky would disappear and the flowers would wilt at just one glance and their life would never be the same again.
so next time someone tells you this and you make haste to deny it because of how the big bad world will spin on and the planets will laugh at your insignificance, stop and realise what they are telling you and try to think about it the next time you want to vanish for the rest of eternity.

It's You
petrichories Dec 2014
why, when asked who the most important person in their life is, do people say their mumdadsisterbrotherhusbandwifesiblingcatfriend? Why do they answer that it is anyone except themselves? because let me tell you one thing;
it's you. it always will be.
it's your heart that keeps the blood pulsing through your blue-river veins. your lungs keep you breathing, no matter how painful each breath is. your legs move you from place to place, although, really, you never even want to be there in the first place. your arms have held loved ones while they have wept and your fingertips have produced transfixing music that has caused them to weep. your liver has kept you alive on the nights where you tried very hard not to be and your stomach has demanded that you really must eat even when you try to tell it, and yourself, otherwise. your lips have brought fireworks to those of others and your eyes have been a glowing fire through the deepest of nights and darkest of times (even if you think they're a terrible, in-between sort of colour)
it's you. it always will be

when you are sad;
petrichories Dec 2014
when you are sad; think not of yourself, but of other people halfway across this blue marble, and what they are doing at this very moment. people who are falling asleep, making a sandwich, choosing which necklace to buy. think of the infinite possible outcomes for these situations and which ones fate will choose. 2 hours of sleep or 12? to wake up or remain in eternal slumber? local cheese or blackberry jam? brown bread or white? the delicate sliver chain or the brash, striking gold one? the passionate green gem like your eyes, or the pale, ethereal blue one like your mood?
then you must realise that from all the possible outcomes for your currently miserable situation, fate will choose the one that works out right in the end because although life can be cruel at times, it cares for individual beings, but can not tend to all at once and your chance at upbeat times will come (soon, i promise)

(so do just that)
petrichories Dec 2014
i think that we could fall in love with so many people if we just followed them round for a day, just watching them do what they do when they are under the illusion that they have no one to 'impress'. observing as they sing whilst changing the light bulb (yet again) or how they get stupidly annoyed at themselves when they drop their glass of water after a sleepless night or the way a smile slowly creeps onto their face when that all time favourite song comes on shuffle when they're drowning in music on the bus.
but you're like that to. i mean, it's silly really. how humans are at their truest, most beautiful even, when they are by themselves. as if nature or god or whatever you believe in didn't want them to fall in love with someone else, or to have someone else love them. you are most entrancing when you are alone, and it's as if you were made to fall in love with yourself   instead of anyone else  **(so do just that)
i was tired after a long day doing that thing whereby you just watch people as you attempt to not be creepy when i wrote this :)
