Almost overnight the landscape
seems to have shrugged off
winters debilitations
and risen refreshed
garbed in the bright clean fabric of spring
the sun soars high
in a cloudless sky
touch me
hold me
nuzzle me
she said to me

kiss me please

love me
I should have said to her

softly
love me please

I should have said to her
Four blocks down,
A man who never gives the same name
Stands every day selling condoms
With Tiger’s face telling us to “Protect Our Wood”,
And next to him is the vendor where
I just bought my new favorite scarf.
His name is Lorenzo. He’s 6 foot 4,
Old school Italian, and after two months
I’ve yet to see him wear the same shoes twice.

Natalie played softball in high school.
She now owns a hot dog stand just outside
That I’ve seen fifty people wait in line for.
After a heartfelt conversation we had
On a certain rainy Thursday morning,
Natalie now throws me a free Polish sausage with peppers
Once in a while when I open my second story window.
She hasn’t missed once.

My one neighbor is a Latina grandmother named Sofia.
She brought her kids here illegally,
And they’ve since used their success
To cut all ties to dear old Mexico
And to her.
I eat with her once a week,
And we share cooking recipes
And small tales about life BNY
(Before New York).

There’s a homeless man downtown
Whose sign says “A quarter a day
Keeps my teeth off your leg”,
And ever since he’s proven it to me
I’ve dropped fifty cents a day,
Hoping for extra protection.

When my friends from college come to visit,
They were all curious about Lorenzo’s shoes
And Natalie’s pitching arm
And when Sofia’s daughter would show up
(Tyler had a thing for hispanic girls).
I never tried to explain, because
I never felt the need to know the answer myself.
All I cared about were Natalie’s smile,
Sofia’s homemade tortilla chips,
And how a guy like Lorenzo ended up in New York City selling scarves.
Wrote this for a creative writing class last year, and no one's read it since. i'd love some new input

Looking back, I would've never thought I would be here.
But it feels good to be calm and finally see clear.
One day this will all be a memory of a new life.
The one thing I have learned is that I want to do right.

but I love the way you laugh, and
      how your eyes squint up,
       and you bare your teeth.

I love when I feel the warmth
    of your calloused hand
       hugging my cheek.

You know how you always seem
to just, stare into my soul?
            I love that too.

But what I love the most about you
is that I don't have to try,
                 to be anything.

I love how you can put me at ease,
     because that is something
that no one else can do.

                                                                                                I don't love you.
                                                                                                                                    But I want to.

There are three sides to a story
and I've shied away from each
lost my touch I've grown so numb
to my own feelings
now a new language that I'm
in no way familiar with
only fluent in silence

My problem is inspiration
before long turns to disinterest
will to a won't
or a can't
or a don't
so I don't
try

words are objective
their meanings subjective
so splattering words on a page
like paint on a canvas
or colors on the world
is a step in the right direction
a try

a seed
that will hopefully grow into a
strong poe-tree
with multidimensional branches
that I can climb to escape
But there's no escape if I don't try.

Women like you make me realize
I should open my eyes
What's right in front of me
Is all I'll ever need
My one girl
In our one world
Females like you are the reason
I should cherish mine
Fine dining and wine
Everything top of the line
Feed her grapes off the vine
Make the *** chill her spine.
It just won't get any better
I got a trend setter
And my bed couldn't get wetter
Girls like you are the reason
Im gonna change my life
Make her my wife
And end all the trife
Things that I do
I have queen
Who knows she means
This whole world to me
For *eternity

Leave the kettle on the stove, I'll be home soon
Keep things as if I've never been gone
I walk the land through blazing sun and chilling moon
Pray for me that I might carry on

Take a picture of your face, send it to me
So I might remember what I'm fighting for
Mail it along with a flower from the lilac tree
That littered the porch right up to your door

With gun in hand, I understand the words you say
In the letter I read in the rainy night
Telling me, come home, come home my soldier, come home today
Put the fight aside and make sure you're all right

This distant land, this distant shore bring no solace to me
Except for the joys you send now and again
Your soldier lies with unresting eyes until you I see
And will fight for you till his fighting can end
