There is one rose that is bound to the dark of night
Your door you should not let grace
Though she comes as one inside a dream
One should not ever dare
Her arms embrace

The sweetest words her lips will be saying
Within all her cunning subtlety
Though she comes inside your dreams
It is her goal to bring your heart
To its very knees

A rude awakening will cut your heart’s threads
‘Tis impossible to stop the bleed
So remember when you drift to dream
Do not welcome this one rose’s
Dark night of need

I gathered waves of laughter and began to run wild
With horses who came to see the sun
Although my footsteps were soft and sweet
The earth still saw my soul
Started spinning wild
And gathering waves of laughter
With me

Turn away from the petals that did not take the time
To look down with pitying tears
Upon the stones which adorned their soil
Pushing aside
What could make their hearts soar high
If not
For shadowy fears

A bit of light is reflected on where you see them lie
Just a blur to those who cannot see
Yet would you their sorrows drown in tears
If you could discern
What real beauty is with your heart
And know
What truly lies at your feet

Child of Noise

Shiny cars fill the streets of Constant Sound with horns
A noise that reaches far and wide
I have lived here since the day I was born
A child of noise, with no silent pride

I know each family by their first names
Better yet by the sound
Their shiny cars make in this game
We play here in our town

Each morning when the sun comes up
The first thing you will hear
Before your milk greets your little cup
Are horns laughing in your ears

Our morning paper lands on my front porch
With a resounding thud
Followed by a beeping horn of course
From underneath a shiny hood

Whenever I turn on my favorite radio
To hear the latest news
The traffic rolling down our streets
Sounds out a message too

If I should ever wake one day to find
Silence here in my town
I would have to think no clocks were set
And everyone was sleeping sound

I would call them one by one
Wake them all from their peaceful sleep
Because here in Constant Sound
There would be no sun
If only silence, we did keep

Touch my heart in the shadows of the night
Let silence reign in your seduction
Call to my eyes until I can remember
Words of love you once spoke
Dear to me

Let there be no shame in what we see here
In this warmth you bring to me
Call to my eyes that I am not alone
Words of love you once spoke
So willingly

I am standing still with the print of your heart
Here listening to the beat of my own
Call to my eyes the words of love known
So that I can remember
My way home

We waited like birds that had lost their wings
With our feathers lying at our feet
Our heads turned up, offering a smile
Until showers of faded leaves fell on our faces
Plucked from the hearts
Of our trees

Refusing to ask questions before time ended
We became unsure of our skies
Lowered our heads, denying our smiles
To the continuance of life
Thinking it was not possible to feel joy
If we cried

We did not know that we could fly up in wonder
Our wings remained ever secure
Even when we could not feel the sunlight
Brush the flowers in our fields
Or move into the doors of our lives
Bright and pure

When I kissed the cheek of the break of day
Into her ears I whispered
All of my secrets
I felt her presence stray into my emotions
Where she laughed and played
Until I found she had stolen
My love from me

The blackest night became my new beloved
While daybreak sat and smiled
Knowing that she was merely inches
From accepting his embrace as her own
She laughed and played
Until I found she had stolen
My love from me

Now I am here gazing into your eyes alone
Yet mine are not filled with any tears
I became a fugitive of love
With an angry heart
Forgiveness has never known
Until I found that you had stolen
My love from me
