I dreamt of the mother I hope to become
Last night, when my family was fast asleep.
She sat with her little girl,
ready to strum her guitar,
singing a soft lullaby
to keep bad dreams far away.
She kissed her daughter's head,
Whispering a soft prayer,
and closing the door.
Her husband held her in his arms,
As they danced in the soft kitchen lights,
Revealing her protruding, pregnant belly.
Another baby on the way,
Another life to bless.

She walks beneath the moonlight,
Dodging the street lights
And lurking beyond each corner.
She yearns for just one star
To descend and kiss her face;
For every single birthday wish
Since she was a little girl
Was that . . .

Though she never quite believed it.

She had an explorer's intuition
and a head full of dreams
that would suffocate
in this one light town.

I'd seen it since the beginning

and had to suppress
my selfish urge
to clip her wings
and keep her here.

But even so,
as we said our goodbyes
my eyes filled with hot tears.

I'll miss you so much
My voice cracked audibly.

Don't worry, Love.
I'm only beginning a new adventure.
Turning a new leaf.
Starting a new chapter.

I'll be back before you know...

And with that she was gone.
I waited until her plane took off,
and thanked God that I knew her.

You and I are the movie’s trailer,

the first lick of a dripping ice cream cone,

the first snow in winter.

We’re a beginning,

a preview of what could happen,

what would happen if our lives ever align.

But for now, I’m satisfied with

serendipitous blurs of visits,
occasional tastes of our favorite tea,

and the hope that I’ll enjoy

a fresh *** of Earl Grey

with you down this winding road.
Contemplating doing this one (and others) as spoken word.
So we are where we were at the beginning
you and i, amid the waste of so many years
and lives spent living amongst one another

I put away your things in the places I have
learned that you expect to find them and also
I know the places where you like to put away my things

I know that we must not try to eat breakfast together
you must have the newspaper fresh, even if I put it back
so that I have learned to get my news from public radio

You have learned to like my cooking, even when I cannot
seem to remember that you do not like pears, except in salad
and I have started to use ketchup on my turkey at Thanksgiving

Now that we have achieved this balance, we find ourselves alone
again, with no children to referee our lives and focus our attention
so we are where we were at the beginning, and I wonder, how long

Can we learn to fall in love with the people we have become, you and I?
Doesn't beauty
lie within
the boundaries
between love and sin?
What if
     I
turn out to be
    one
who sees
She's the one you want.
The one you can't have.
With her everything is music.
Everything is clear.
You can't touch her.
Even though she longs for it.
She is alone.
Surrounded and alone.
You can't reach her.
She's beyond you.
Far far away.
Even if she's right there.
Theres happiness in her heart.
Sadness in her soul.
Eternity in her eyes.
Wisdom in her smile.
She is the whisper in the wind.
The ripple in a wave.
When she walks away,
She was already gone.

YOU ARE:
Boorish and bellicose
Calamitous and caustic
Defamatory and dowdy
Garrulous and guileless
Insolent and irksome
Are you busy tonight?
Some of my favorite negative adjectives with my favorite, alliteration, and my favorite male weakness, any woman, even a negative one.
