Galaxy Lite-Brite
Mike Hauser Mar 2018
She takes the stars up in the sky
And connects their dots at night
Like a giant Etch A Sketch
Her own Galaxy Lite-Brite

Using neon highlighter
All the colors she can find
Drawing close the Cosmos
She closes both her eyes

Adding a bit of the abstract
She changes hands from left to right
On this giant Etch A Sketch
Her own Galaxy Lite-Brite

Once Inside
Mike Hauser Oct 2016
Put me in a needle
Shoot me in your vain's
Rowing through your vessels
Like two lovers on a lake

Doing my best to create a wake
Near to where you are
Once around the ankle
Twice around the heart

I might even tickle
Somewhere along the way
As I ebb and flow
Closer to your brain

Riding on the constant wave
From the beating of your chest
Until I win you over
There will be no rest

So put me in a needle
Shoot me in your vain's
Rowing through your vessels
Like two lovers on a lake
Mike Hauser Nov 2018
After all these many carnivore years
You can call it guilt or you can call it fear
I've made up my mind to decide
I'm going vegan this November time

So I broke down hard and read some books
Heard some tapes on what it took
From veggies steamed to veggies raw
From beans of green to yellow squash

As my nightly dreams were all filled with meat
I pushed back hard with collard greens
But still had no clue of what to do
With a turkey substitute

And that is when a friend came in
Who Tofu's the line at turkey time
So I read more books and heard more tapes
On Tofu fried, boiled, broiled, and baked

Opening up my kitchen to fine cuisine
Minus the best part...that being meat
As I promised myself I can make this work
My Tofurkey  would be the finest in edible art

I had bought  my Tofu by the pound
Lucky for me it is pliable
As I stretched and pulled and pulled and stretched
Until I had something that looked like a head

With my artistic abilities seriously in doubt
I'm pretty sure what I conjured was the head of a cow
So I pulled and stretched and stretched and pulled
No ones going to call me an abstract fool

As I bring to boil the "Rodin" juices in me
And baste at my skills repeatedly
Where I come up with a turkey, giblets and all
And just for good measure I gobble a turkey call

Of course cooking the thing is another road and
I sadly lost Tofurkey 1, 2, and 3 in the explosion
When 4 hit the score I invited my friends
Whose friendship with them will take time to mend

Just because a turkey looks like a turkey, don't mean that it is
I'm now learning all this while I clean up the mess
As forks went to the mouths at the very same time
So did the retching along with the crying

But in a month they'll forget this entire sordid ordeal
When they get the invites for my Christmas holiday meal
With my time in the books and tapes I will spend
Looking forward to  Christmas and a delicious soy bean ham
This is a repost of a repost I once posted... All in good fun!

Today's Poem
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
I took today's poem
And did with it what was meant
Wrote it down with passion
Then sealed it with a kiss

Placed it inside my warming heart
Took it out with cooling hands
Opened palms slightly skyward
And let it fly off on the wind

gamma rays (rerun for fun)
Mike Hauser Jul 2017
there's a hole in my head
where the gamma gets in
tickles my brain
giggles my skin
turns my insides
to outside in
throws all my cares
into the wind
curls my hair
into corn rows
florescent's the jam
between my toes
spittles the spine
blows its own nose
grabs tightly my gizzard
then let's it go
adds purple highlights
to the hair on my face
takes my overbite
and sets it in place
makes me want to run
although there's no race
all through the hole in my head
filled by these gamma rays

Empty Pockets
Mike Hauser Apr 2022
Why is it that the older you get
The less you seem to care
About all that the world collects
That only helps ensnare

Where don't you know a few short years ago
You filled your pockets with greed
With needless stuff you want and some you don't
Packing them tight selfishly

But age sometimes does us a favor
Of what seemed important then
No longer satisfies in its entice
And you find if you don't have it you'll still live

No longer concerned about the next corner turn
It's more about the here and now
And the happiness you get from that simple fact
Is now what it's all about

There's no need to plan the future
With living life one day at a time
And the older it is that you get
The less you're impressed with the find

It becomes more about friends and family around
And less about the junk in life
That we lined our pockets with just to have
Thinking that's what we needed to survive

There's freedom don't you know in the letting go
Of all the worldly junk you don't need
You've collected here that's muddled the years
That once filled your pockets with greed
Mike Hauser May 2014
There's to much in life going on
Leaving me out in the cold
With my winter wear tattered and torn
The days of my youth have been sold

At times leaves me out of breath
Purchasing more of nothing less
So I search the world for the girl
Who knows what's coming next

I look out expectantly
Gazing off into the East
Not knowing when or what I will see
But it's the East that's in front of me

I take the less beaten path
Straying neither to the right nor the left
As I search the world for the girl
Who knows what's coming next

Stepping into little fanfare
With a life that's going nowhere
As if I really care
I think I'm already there

Shrugging it all off with a laugh
I've been in thicker a mess
As I continue to search the world for the girl
Who knows what's coming next

Have you got TikTok Rot
Head in a constant spin
Telling you their brand of truth
As you nod along, with a goofy grin

Have you got TikTok Rot
Finger in a constant swipe
Can’t find your way to concentrate
While they infiltrate your mind

Have you got TikTok Rot
Eyes in a constant shift
Before you know it you’re all out of focus
With the foolishness, they put in your head

Have you got TikTok Rot
Constant in your drooling
Where all you know is what you’ve been told
No idea of what you’re doing

Have you got TikTok Rot
In a constant state of panic
On the edge of certain death
If they were to ban it

Have you got TikTok Rot
Hey Buddy, what’s that smell
It’s all the rot inside TikTok
A generation stumbling over themselves

Yesterday's Girl
Mike Hauser Oct 2016
Never could she keep up with the days goings on
And waiting for tomorrow takes far to long
As she tries to be happy with the moment of here
Though she's much more comfortable as Yesterday's Girl

Lays the day out on the table hoping the setting looks right
Slicing the hours like a piece of peach pie
There is always tomorrow in a perfect world
But you take your chances being Yesterday's Girl

There seems to be lacking when the day rolls around
Without even asking, raising questions of doubt
Tomorrow may know but tomorrow won't tell
Life can be a bit confusing when you're Yesterday's girl
Mike Hauser Aug 2019
in this rest and relax
the little time that we have
emoting life in a forward move
monday comes one day too soon

with clear memories kept
spilling harshly from our laps
far too fast to catch what we lose
monday comes one day too soon

grabbing at the last days straw
not wanting to let one iota go
from what we'd done to the planned to do
monday comes one day too soon

weekend time is the fastest of rides
minutes wave to seconds pulled out by the tide
no control on the speed that it moves
monday comes one day too soon

The Gamble
Mike Hauser Jun 2017
God doesn't play parlor games
Nor does he throw the dice
With the future being the corner stone
That is built on Jesus Christ

It is man who gambles for his life
With every slight of hand
And still he has yet to find
The fortune of his demands

God doesn't take and shuffle cards
Like a dealer of Blackjack
He knows where everything is hidden
And where it should be at

Where man so often fumbles
In the playing of his cards
God in all his wisdom
Has a count on all the stars

With no two ways about it
Man will always choose the losing hand
Never should you doubt it
When he deals in the life of sin
Not only does God play dice, but ...he sometimes throws them where they cannot be seen.
Stephen Hawking
This is my rebuttal to a quote from Stephen on a photo site I am on. God does not gamble with dice nor our lives.

Mike Hauser Dec 2016
if you see me out late at night
looking like i'm about to cry
please believe it's allergies
and not the fact she's not with me

though i'll never really understand
the main reason that she left
so if my head is hanging low
it's not the fact i miss her so

if she's near me and my heart skips a beat
that's not to say she's my greatest need
or i miss her more than i let on
since the day that she's been gone

i'm doing fine, the time of my life
remember these aren't tears i cry
all a part of being a man
nothing to do with lost romance

as anyone can plainly see
all this doesn't mean a thing

Lifes Three-Minute Song
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
Some had dreams, some had high hopes
Cause life's a song when you're young you know
As you and your friend's all hum along
But where does the melody go

Three-minute songs never last long
As life turns the dial on its car radio
Playing a song you never dreamed you'd ever know
Or at least that's what you had hoped

Is there really a need to come out and ask
What once was Top 40 is now the Blues and Slow Jazz
With your dreams and your hopes now in the past
As three-minute songs never last all being over much too fast

Oh yea, that little item I refer to as a brain

So I guess I best unpack this mess
From inside my cranium
Take it out and dust it off
If this job is to get done

If I could only find where I put that rhyme
Was it in pile right or in pile left
Maybe it slipped out of my head
While I slept tight last night in my bed

As I make my way from the start of this day

Insanity I think for me will be good company

so will i

will i leave

and will that smile
say goodbye
when i reach
the other side

waking to
the sweet by and by
is that when
i'll know i've died

will there be
room for me
when i reach
eternity

and what will i do
with all that time
when all my friends
and i both die

Do you remember me
The way I remember you
In fondness and in folly

Do you step out at night
And stare at the moon
Dreaming in rhyme the days of old

Do you catch yourself
In mid-stare
If you see a star that's falling

Do you wish back
To the day that
We were the story being told

Do you think of me
If there's a chilling breeze
And the warmth that I provided

Do you feel that warmth
Inside your heart
And does it help to battle off the cold

Do you remember me
The way I remember you
As I do you daily

Do you miss the read

Slippery Slope
Mike Hauser Aug 2017
We're on a slippery *****
As we raise high all the hoops
Someone grab ahold of the rope
But not the one with the ragged end noose

If we keep on in this spiral
Of downward trajectory
There will soon be nothing left
When it comes to you and me

Galloping along on our high horse
Aren't we all the same to blame
As a matter of sense in this matter of course
Don't we all blame the same

We set our standards high
Expecting the others to jump
Knowing that if we ourselves even tried
We wouldn't have too much luck

With our do as I say
But don't do as I do
Leading the way
In our new attitude

Or we too afraid
To sing life in harmony
As our voices raise
To this daily song way off key

I keep wondering when
We'll say enough is enough
And see that hate doesn't stop hate
Hate only sucombs to love

Maybelline Beauty Queen
Mike Hauser Sep 2018
No one knows what she really looks like
Without all her makeup on
Once she applied the first coat of beautify
She never once thought of taking it off

She just continually adds to the layers
Off the color wheel from which she gleens
Comes in an array of colors
From the 70's through the new millennium

Even her own mother would not recognize her
If she ever decided to come clean
A la natural in spite of it all
This Maybelline beauty queen

She never fell into a little dab will do ya
But far less than any glob fest
She lets her fingers do the walking as her makeup does the talking
Never once giving her face a rest

Never could guess how old she is
As she expertly fills in the lines
Every crevis and crack from forehead to neck
A little heavy-handed at times
Till even she doesn't know what she looks like

I found a set of wings
Beside a running stream
I strapped them to my back
And I went flying

I flew over farms and fields
Abandoned oil wells
Among the hills and dales
Just a gliding

I flew over city streets
Giving my new wings a beat
In perfect harmony
There's no denying

Flew over ocean's wide
Dipped my wings into the tide
So much there is to find
When one is flying

I had people stop and stare
Pointing fingers in the air
As I showed off a bit of flair
With dips and diving

I then waved the earth below
As I shot for galaxies unknown
Adventures high and low
Sure to be finding

As I flap my set of wings
A space age bee buzzing
Flash Gordon in the making

A Tale Of 2 Different Kings
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Carved David out of marble
What else could Michel do
Searching for an angle
Immortalizing you

Did the same with Elvis
He too was a king
We put him in velvet
David in a museum

Where we keep him under guard
For all the world to see
Take all the pictures that you like
But no autographs if you please

Elvis on a pedestal
Amid the screams and crys
Kept his fame though lost his way
Where alone he died

David fiddled around with sling shots
Elvis sang and played guitar
One relaxed on roof tops
The other bought people cars

These are different days
Those were different times
Both of these men caved
To sin in their lives

Man can succumb to pressure
When given everything
A show of pain and pleasure
A tale of 2 different kings
Mike Hauser Dec 2019
I met a man in a playful tune
Who had a thought I thought I knew
He said to me goo goo g'joob
Does anything sound more real to you

We were out standing in a field
With fresh strawberries dancing at our heels
In a moment a bit too surreal
Continue on Bungalow Bill

We moved past a four-man line
As we slipped into dream #9
Being there for the benefit of Mr. Kite
When Lucy and her diamonds fell from the sky

A day in the life left tragically
Our mystery tour on a yellow submarine
The revolution of love has now left the building
In a puddle of memories out on the street

She held your hand to comfort you
The color of love now the color of blue
Till the bitter end, you sang passion true
Goodbye to you Goo goo g'joob...

This Is Me Missing You
Mike Hauser May 2018
There's a picture in my head
Of what I looked like then
The way I did the day we wed
Is all in the expression

You can take it or you can leave it
Whatever you find to do
The point is now you see it
The is me missing you

For what we had together
Let no man tear apart
You change your mind over time
Which in time turned your heart

What we had wasn't meant to last
I now know that to be true
Still that doesn't change the heartfelt fact
This is me missing you

Whether one or lopsided
Aren't they both about the same
A marriage in route misguided
No matter who's to blame

You might have changed the beat
While I still hum the tune
Since our words we failed to keep
This is me missing you
I've been happily married going on 33 years.
Most of my poems have nothing to do with me... We'll maybe my last poem "The Pick" Otherwise I just make this stuff up!

try and explain away these darkened days

What's Left To Say
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
What can I write
That hasn't been written before
What can say
That hasn't been said by scores
Could what ever I find
Be put down in rhyme
And then not ignored

What can I do
That hasn't been done as of late
What can I script
That hasn't see pen nor page
If I take it letter by letter
Would that work out better
If I do it that way

What can I imagine
That hasn't cross someone's mind
If I just let it happen
Could I imagine something new in time
If my brain starts a-brewing
Doubling up on its doing
No telling what it will find

So I'll just write it down
And whatever comes to pass
What words hit the ground
Will be as good as anybody's guess
Whether it comes out on top
Or goes down as a flop
At least I gave it my best

Haven't we known each other forever
And aren't we both the best of friends
Is there hope we could go any further
Or is friendship where this friendship ends

I know you're happy where we are at
And love is the furthest from your mind
I fight back the tears as I toss out the laughs
With this friendship tearing me up inside

I'm afraid to ruin what we both have
By letting my feelings have their say
Until then I'll continue in my charade of laughs
In hopes that one day you'll feel the same
I'm actually very happily married...
Just thinking of things to write about and this popped into mind.

She lives in the glow
Of the television screen
With volume set low
Not disturbing her sleep

A revolving door
Lets in the only other light
Neon in its temperament
As nurses take vital signs

Nothing more they can do
On these her final days
But give her slight comfort
As she slips away

Sadly it's come down to this
The waiting of days
That death places his kiss
On the side of her face

No denying he's coming
Bringing much needed relief
With mind fading in and out of reasoning
She sees that's all she has left

With nothing more they can do
On these her final days
But to give her slight comfort
As she slips away

Guys Confession
Mike Hauser Jul 2017
Me and the guys have been around
quite a long time
Hung out with women
most of our lives
It's now come to the point
where me and the guys
Would like to apologize

From all of the things
we've been sneaking around
Which ya'll probably know
but haven't let on
Thinking we've pulled the wool
over your eyes
But to you it's no surprise

All the times we've forgotten
to take the trash out
That's the funk from the trunk
but don't know what's the sound
And those nights you thought
that was just a bad dream
We really forgot to put down the seat

When we have that blank look
like we're lost in our thoughts
We're really sitting there
with no thoughts at all
And to save time and water
we believe a few squirts of Febreze
Can be more than a wonderful thing

That part when we say
we have to work late
It's true but only because
we slept at our desks all day
If that has you scratching
your head wondering why
When you're asleep we play video games all night

That's just a few
Of the things that us guys do
Believe me there's more
But we don't want to scare you
We're pretty sure
that if all it you knew
You'd ship us all off the Kalamazoo

I'm not sure about you
but I'm willing to bet
Like me that you're glad
We got that off our chest
All in good fun life keeps you laughing
So lets all just pretend
That none of this really happens

With a blank stare on their faces

No matter the day no matter the place
Not a one of them gives off a smile

Shuffling of feet on their way to greet
Another day of doom and gloom
In this state of zombiefied they'll never find
A sunny afternoon

As they move about downcast eyes with a frown
Can't they see they could be free
Instead of this state of hating each day

I'd Like To Thank The World
Mike Hauser Aug 2014
I'd like to take this moment
While I'm here to thank the world
The opportunity it's afforded me
In the breaking of life's mold
From the youngest age of tenderness
To the aching bones of old no less
From everything that I have seen
I'd like to thank the world

~

If it's even listening
I'd like to thank the world
From past and present history
With the lies that have been told
To what stands out in front of me
What little is left that I can see
From the way it bites to the way I bleed
I'd like to thank the world

~

For continually knocking me off at the knees
I'd like to thank the world
For keeping me up with the latest disease
I'd like to thank the world
As I take this time to toss in my lot
With all my have's and my have not's
For everything I haven't got
I'd like to thank the world

~

For every promise that's been lost
I'd like to thank the world
For daily punches in the gut
And the pain that that's unfurled
From the beginning to the end
The way it drives me round the bend
With the sorrow that it gives
I'd like to thank the world
Thanks a lot...

Love is Blind
Mike Hauser Aug 2016
I've heard it said
That love is blind
Well if that's true
Then shut out the lights
I don't want to see
The rest of my life
If love is blind
Then so am I
When it comes
To loving you
As I can't see
What else there is to do
Whoever said
I'm pretty sure they knew
That in my blindness
I'd find this true
That in my blindness
I'd be loving you

Remembering those
from yesterday
Leaving us behind
in memories wake

Who's to understand
the tragedy of life
Only able to take
one day at a time

We will shed our tears
and spread our sorrows
As not a one of us
is promised tomorrow

Leave Me Be
Mike Hauser Aug 2014
Hit the lights

Shut the door

Shut the door

Turn the key

Turn the key

Say goodbye

Say goodbye

Leave me be

I'm fine with

Who I am

Who I am

Is all alone

All alone

Is where I've been

Every night

Since you've been gone

I see there's

No turning back

No turning back

To where I was

Where I was

Was what I lacked

What I lacked

Was not enough

Not enough

To bring me out

Bring me out

Of misery

Misery in how I feel

So say goodbye

And leave me be

~Woman~

Proof is in the pudding
She's the best slice of the pie
God knew what he was doing
With this apple in his eye

She is the strength that matters
The glue that we cling to
Out loud gorgeous in her laughter
Large proportions of the truth

Morning's light that holds the daybreak
Steady in its place
The taste of morning glory
In the fragrance that she makes

Happy in the ever after
Mystery in the clue
The way when it is made clear
Brand in the spanking new

One highly to be honored
Above all that can be found
On her love has been garnered
In her, beauty does abound

My mama was a sticky note

My daddy a ball point pen

And I was their little reminder

Of just how much love they were in

Do You Know What It's Like
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
Do you know what it's like

To always be hungry
Or to stand just on the edge of outside
Not to have a father or mother
Or even a friend by your side

Do you know what it's like

To always be frightened
Not to know your place in this life
To move along because you've been told to
Or sleep in a dark ally at night

Do you know what it's like

To be one of the unwanted
To have faces turn from you time after time
When you have your hand out for a favor
Those same faces pay you no mind

DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE
Do You Know What It's Like
do you know what it's like
do you?

I Believe
Mike Hauser Jun 2017
I believe...

For every heart that's filled with pain
For every drop of acid rain
Everyone can love the same
If every thought is built on change

I believe...

That giving all you have's a must
That relationships are built on trust
If you don't exercise your heart it rusts
That love is the total of the sum

I believe...

That every juncture in this life
Is an opportunity to do what's right
Never is it wasted time
If you hold tight to the ties that bind

I believe...

Not only is the stomach fed
But also the heart, the soul, the head
Until there is no hunger left
And all the needs of man are met

I believe...

The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Blesses those who love them most
Up and down humanities coast
For the Bible tells me so

I believe...

In giving everyone a chance
The answer to this life is yes
That every taken breath should be a quest
And that life should only end in death

Chicken Little Had It Right
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
Chicken Little had it right
When he ran for his life
No time for 911 calling

All he had time to do
Were a few **** a doodle doos
All the while screaming the sky is falling

You can always hope for the best
But who out there studies for tests
Hello, this is history calling

Won't you come please join us
There's plenty of room on the bus
As life on this side is rather daunting

Pretty sure we've been here before
But hey, who's keeping score
Are we forwards or backwards crawling

Chicken Little had it right
When he ran for his life
All the while screaming the sky is falling
