Here We Go
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
(Me)

Here I go
there's nothing there to stop me
The river flows
but it flows around me
I'm in the know
and it is enlightening
I don't lose hope
the height's no longer frightening

(You)

If you hold on
the past is over powering
You must let go
of the rope the world is tying
Your feeling low
the hill it is worth climbing
You shoulder on
there is no looking behind

(Us)

Here we go
we both will go together
On the river boat
we will gamble on forever
We'll toss what we know
into the coming weather
The world we'll show
better we are

(together)

What Do You Think
Mike Hauser Apr 2016
Do you think she still loves me
Do you think she still cares
Do you think she remembers
That I was even there

Do you think that she misses
How things used to be
But above all do you think
That she thinks about me

Do you think we could ever
Get back together again
If we took it slowly
Starting over as friends

Do you think there's enough
That we could mend
Or is the fabric of forgotten love
Too tough to stitch

Do you think that I'm putting
Too much thought into this
Should I give up the ghost
Let go of the past

Do you think there's a chance
That I'll ever forget
What we once had
What do you think
Mike Hauser Feb 2017
As I strolled down  Beaker Street
A neon sign flashed in front of me

That said "Only Serious Poets Need Apply"
(Blink) "Need Apply" (Blink) "Need Apply"

So it was I thought to myself
I can think of noone else

As serious a poet such as I

I looked to the right and then the left
Feeling pretty confident about myself

And decided to take a gander inside

The room it was totally dark
In the corner was the tiniest of sparks

I did a stately poetic stroll in that direction

Feeling I might have made a mistake
This thought occurring a little too late

But of course this whole scene might just be window dressing

A voice said we don't need a poet at all
Just someone dumb and gullible

That's the moment in my pants I started messing

Turns out it was a mad scientist
With a masters degree in craziness

What were his dastardly plans I could only be guessing

I was grabbed by a couple of thugs
Who highly dislike deodorant and mouthwash

******* and flown off to the smallest of islands

Where they did unspeakable experiments on me
In the first, second, and third degree

All because to insanity they took a liking

When it was they were finally done
With what those nut jobs consider good fun

Don't know how many walls they had me climbing

Daily now I plan my escape
I only hope that I'm not to late

When the opportunity arrives I hope I don't blow it

I find it so hard to believe
That this all has happened to me

And Why?
Because of me being such a serious poet

Life's Story
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
Read every line etched on my face
That tells of the time along with the place

Where a story this old
Will not go untold

Look in my eyes that have been clearer most days
And the secrets they hold that they won't give away

The ones collected in my youth
If you must know the truth

And the hands that I have with the ache and the hurt
Arthritic most times in their twists and their turns

But still able to wave to the dead
Friends that have left

With the buckling of knees and the thinning of hair
As my hearing in and out leaves for somewhere other than here

And these brittle bones that are cold
With the shivers of old

The mirror on the wall no longer reflects my memory
Holds nothing I want nor do I care to see

Just look at this body to read
Life's story

Have You Heard Of Me?
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
You say you've heard of me
And most of what I've done
Why is it that your standing there
Why don't you turn and run

Didn't your mom and dad
Teach you anything
After this, after all
You say you've heard of me

The reputation that I have
Has been buried deep
In the souls of many
But just shy of six feet

Some people find it sad
If the truth you must
I can be both good and bad
Just ask the two of us

You say you've heard of me
Perhaps you should exam
Look further in the deep
To find out who I am

~Love Poems~
Mike Hauser May 2014
Everyone loves a love poem
One that grabs hold the heart
Takes you from the place your at
To a place you wish you were

Giving hope to all the hopeless
Those diamonds in the rough
Sprinkling stardust on the dreamers dream
All the while rhyming for the purpose of love

For love poems surrender it over
To the side of all of our dreams
Whether future or past, your first or your last
The good or the bad, it could go either way

Yes, everyone loves a love poem
One that tugs at the strings
Bringing to mind one love of a kind
But if not at least it helps with the dream

I started out this morning

Not intending to write a trilogy

One subject that I failed to pick

Is right in front of me

Keeping the air waves free of debris

Is why I dig so deep

It's better to pick what's between my eyes

Than what's behind between my cheeks

Has anyone here seen Anna May
Drawn into this life in colorful array
In both bright and dark moods on the comic book page
Playing the tune to which the artist must play

Hanging out daily at the comic book shop
She doesn't come cheaply but she can be bought
In flat black and white or semi high gloss
Those that know her well will pay whatever the cost

She sits at your table to gaze upon while you eat
On your night stand to watch as you sleep
She comes to you nightly inside of your dreams
The love you have for Anna May won't let you be

So has anyone here seen Anna May
She's grown tired of the pressure that's drawn her away
She handled life well before the fortune and fame
Tell me has anyone here seen Anna May
I'm really not up on Anime but thought this was a cool idea for a write....

~Sunday Church~
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
I saw you on that Sunday
Walking by the church
I wonder what goes through your mind
Confusion, hatred, love?

Do you wonder why so many
Go to worship God
When you feel that in your life
Your plenty strong enough

And when you reach the end
**** that's it...no more
Why waste your Sundays on your knees
Worshiping the Lord

After all this is the only day
That you have to yourself
So why on earth would you spend it
On somebody else

But I can tell you it's not like that
It's not like that at all
Once your eyes are open
And truly seen man in his fall

Once your heart is softened
And opened to the truth
Then your compelled to worship God
In everything you do

You'll gladly spend your Sundays
And all days in between
Finding hope and strength
Down upon your knees

So let's not judge and toss out
What it is you do not know
This Sunday don't walk by, step inside
And experience just what's going on

Thoughtful Writings
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
As I sat down to write this poem
Of my life and its goings on
I couldn't figure out what to say
So I decided to save it for another day

Then I thought why not tackle love
But hasn't love been written of enough
So it went by the wayside like my life
Coming back to it another time

I then set my sights on comedy
Which is always fun to write for me
I gave it my best serious attempt
But didn't care for the way that went

Should I turn to writing sadness and pain
Cause life's not always fun and games
But with that's there's nothing much to gain
Plus it's not really my forte

How about something more profound
That's when I stood and looked around
But couldn't find a single thing
So that thought is also now history

I guess I'll just have to wait
To write one of these poems another day
And settle for the here and now
With what it is above I've written down

Change
Mike Hauser May 2014
What it was and what we see
Never was it meant to be
Teenage years of ecstasy
Turned adults who cease to dream

Jumping from the lap too fast
Into a field of broken glass
What you had you can't have back
In your bid to buy back the past

Take the hand of the Lemming next to you
As you enjoy the plunging view
Would you have changed had they told you
And would the change continue

Everyone must feel the pain
Secrets held tight in the grave
What we have is in the change
Harken back those teenage days
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Some days you're thrown an I just don't know
Other days it's all right there
A glimmer of hope in which to cope
A fresh breath of poetic air

A constant loop as the dial slowly moves
In its never ending search for the truth
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you

From the ups and downs to the toss arounds
All  grate on a soul in time
But what's growing there inside your despair
Can pour forth in the perfect rhyme

Some days you find the inner light
Others you have no clue
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you

You can be more or less inspirationaless
Then your pen flairs with the finest finesse
The point that you make either blows them away
Or what you have to say is anyone's guess

Holding onto the theme of your color scheme
Being the brightest of hues
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you

Sins Cesspool
Mike Hauser Sep 2016
I could so easily say no
There I wouldn't dare go
But I'm so quickly enticed
Inside this demented mind
That I jump right in the flow

Then as I'm standing on the shore of my sin
Waves of guilt come crashing in
How many times in my life
Must I fight this tide
Hating myself for the way that I swim

Thank God that I have a life guard
That meets you at the point where you are
Whether drowning in sin
Or just wading in
Never being to deep nor to far

But as I flounder and flail
I must help myself out as well
By grabbing a hold of His line
And then sharing in kind
With others that are drowning themselves

Then try and watch where I swim
Staying out of the waters of sin
Where I so often find
They're no more than cesspools in life
Where in Christ there's no need to contend

Hide Me Please
Mike Hauser Jul 2016
The way the world is now
I'm scared to say the least
When it comes down to it
Could someone hide me please

Perhaps underneath a feather bed
With soft dust bunnies to lay my head
But if there's no space for me for that
I'll take the closest instead

Anywhere that there is room
Away from the daily doom and gloom
Don't know what else there is to do
But it needs to happen soon

Maybe hide me in the dark
Trunk of a waiting get away car
We can get an early start
Anywhere will do as long as it's far

I'd even take your mom's basement
To hide from trouble in
It's hard to tell who's friend or foe these days
In this world that we now live

I just need a place
That I can hide away
As I am so afraid
I might not make it another day

...with eyes closed tight
Mike Hauser Nov 2014
If you'll give me just a minute
Just a minute to close my eyes
Close my eyes from all they are seeing
Every time I look at life

Is it all a matter of convenience
Or a matter of just facing the facts
Could life be a tad bit more lenient
If I can't see where it is at

I still see it with my eyes closed tight
I still see it burning down
And it's on with the show even though
They're closed tight as it all goes South

I take a chance and take on the stance
Of a man wearing Hollywood shades
Thick is the glass that no one sees past
Not giving to much away

With mouthfuls of what they are feeding
A heaviness I hardly can breath
I look around and think are you kidding
All of this I don't care to see

**But I still see it with my eyes closed tight
I still see it come crashing down
And it's on with the show even though
They're closed tight as it all goes South

The Murmur
Mike Hauser May 2014
As I step into my chamber this morning
The slightest of murmurs could be heard
From pile after pile of poems laying around
The sound of the unfinished word

They all figured they sat and aged long enough
Like the finest of Boones Farm wine
Feeling they're ready to take on the world
And now was the best of times

So I started with the stacks on the left
Digging deep like there was no end
Just when I knew this job was through
I turned around to begin again

There were poems about the present
Poems about the past
A poem of when I found out what life was about
I'd forgotten I'd even had

There are more than enough poems about love
I know now why I set those aside
Though you know when it comes to love and relationships
You can run but you can not hide

There are a few I don't even remember
Letting go of the flow with paper and pen
I might have been in a state of elation
As I often am when a poem grabs my hand

So here I am going through the madness
Starting with the ones that are the loudest
Hoping to give them a chance to talk about it
It's not like they don't deserve it

They've waited here for years patiently
Till this day, the day of Murmur
My goal now is to dress them up so they can go out and play
In the poetic world known as Wonder

Suicide
Mike Hauser May 2018
What if you tried suicide
And by mistake you up and died
Would the demons laugh while God cried
If you were to take your own life

If you think, things aren't running right for me
Do you need to step out that drastically
Wouldn't it be better if you could keep
From doing  harm to the one you call me

Doesn't tomorrow bring another day
A chance to better the come what may
A chance to act a chance to say
There's more to life that I can make

Suicide is not a step that's light
It's the short end of the rope, the snake that bites
The loss of the string on the kite of life
The mistake you make you make too late to find

It's the cowardly way in which to say
I can't make it through another day
Come what will, come what may
You need to live this life before it's too late

Because what you find with suicide
It's also the ones you leave behind that die
Where the demons laugh and God cries
When you can't take anymore and you take your life

because you never ask

from God's goodness and love

like treasures that find their rest
deep on the ocean floor
prayers that never get to be asked
have no reason to float

making their way to the heavens

until it is you ask
if the things that you truly need

Stereotyping
Mike Hauser Aug 2017
I'm a White Conservative Christian
In case "that" you didn't know
And ask if you could or kindly would
Not type me in stereo

Cause I am not you and you are not me
And we are both not he or she
All of us free to be who we want to be
In today's society

And to say I'm the same or the one to blame
For others who carry that name
All seems to me if not crazy
Above it all over the wall insane

Would you want others to do the same thing to you
Before they even knew who you were
To say that you're like the other guy
Just because you share the same color

I think that we need to stop typing freely
So much in stereo
And then like me you might agree
We have more in common than we let on

So let's stop all the fighting and stereotyping
As we learn to love one another
Not as we wish that we were or think that we are
But sister to sister and brother to brother

Dear sisters and dear brothers
We all have different mothers

Yet we're all the same

We've become so divided
It has gotten hard to hide it
With no way to deny it

That we are all to blame

Some pull left while some pull right
Different as noon day and mid-night
The truth we search we've yet to find

Could we be too late

We must till the earth of this dirt
Free it from weeds of the hurt
From each other we can learn

If we listen more than say

Stop this bickering amongst each other
Dear sisters and dear brothers
Find common ground with each other

It's the only way we'll save

Of your unbelief
Turned off the light to your mind
So, your heart can't see

Relying on what you've been told
By Satan, the great thief
A slave to sin both bought and sold
Blind in your belief

Have you blown out the fire
With your unbelief
A loose gun for hire
Of evil forces that work to keep

You away from the truth
Different as day and night
Certainly not wanting you
To have the joy, only found in Jesus Christ

Are you drowning in the darkness

With no idea of how to harness
The peace of freedom that you seek

In these perilous times
Of blind leading the blind
If you reach in unbelief

Are You Lonesome Tonight

We stood on this side of the fence
Two boys just biding our time
There was a job that had to be done
That job lay on the other side

I brought the pick ax and shovel
Bobby the tarp and the twine
We synchronized our watches
Both read a quarter past nine

With the fence now far behind us
We used the cloak of the night
To reach our destination
Behold, such a heavenly sight

So as not to wear ourselves out
We both shared in the work
While one kept steady watch
The other was shoveling dirt

Bobby was the first one to hear it
That glorious heart throbbing THUD
Both of us working the tarp
We rolled our jolly friend up

Wondering if we'd made a mistake
As sirens and flood lights filled the night
For regrets sake it's much to late
In our rear view the Memphis sky line

The moment we pulled into the drive
There was a great sigh of relief
A job that was well done
The King smiles from the back seat

Can anyone actually blame us
Or even call it a crime
When my Granny just wanted to see Elvis
One last time before she died
Just heard on the radio that the 16th of this month was the 41st anniversary of Elvis's death... Wow!

This one room shack in which I live
For a mansion of many rooms
The lies told by the deciever
For an eternity of truth

I'm trading the aches the pain the guilt the shame
For a soul that's sastisfied
As these bones and flesh return to dust
Greeted by the other side

Where I will meet my maker
And His Son face to face
Praising Jesus as my Savior
Throughout my never ending days

I'm trading in the corruption
And all of sins control
As it has given me nothing
But evil desires of want

When I breathe my final breath of this life
On that glorious day
Leaving all of this behind
When I make the trade

Undertow
Mike Hauser Aug 2021
The closer I draw to the end of it all
The more I reflect on the is and the isn't
Humming along in the blaming of all
And my insistence on ignorance

Try my best to do the best that I can
Relying on works more often than not
Like I've said with what little time is left
It's best I put it in the hands of God

I know I'm no more than a foolish man
This flesh and bone being finite
You never know where a soul will go
Or at what time it arrives in the afterlife

A little bell keeps ringing in my head
Could I be wrong on what I think is right
And with that said I'll stick with the promise kept
And leave it all to Jesus Christ

In the undertow here I go
Constant battle inside of my mind
On a cold North wind this leaf is blown
Landing in an empty field most all of the time

To fill a need seems to be my only need
This hypocrite not yet caught
Through the came and went I know time's best spent
Giving all of these thoughts over to God

The Hidden
Mike Hauser May 2014
When it comes to winning
I am a looser
and a liar if you must know the truth
I am a sandwich
with no meat in between
A martini without the vermouth

I am the trail that ends abruptly
With the next step over the cliff
I am the moment that you realize
I am all that as well as all this

I am the pain
that's right behind the eyes
The migraine that keeps showing up
I am the feeling
when you place your bet
The moment you run out of luck

I am the shiver
The heebie jeebies
The trip into the fall
If you'd like, take down my number
I'm here all the time...give me a call

What Did You Think?
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
What did you think the first time you met me
Did you think the same I thought of you
That you could hold me in your arms forever
And in you all my dreams have come true

What did you think when we first held hands
Like me did you feel the tingle run your spine
Did you think you never wanted to let go
Was that when it was love you realized

What did you think on that first kiss
Like me did you think our lips fit perfectly
And did you want that kiss to last forever
Forever indefinitely

What did you think when I got down on one knee
And asked you please to be my loving wife
Did you think like me that yes it was meant to be
Forever till the end of time

There is a Time
Mike Hauser May 2019
There's a time for love a time for hate
A time to apologize
A time for war a time for peace
To open wide our eyes

A time that is worth saving
A time to toss away
Just make sure the toss away
Stays down in the grave

There's a time to look within
A time to look without
A time for preservation
Beyond a shadow of a doubt

A time for understanding
A time to right the wrongs
A time to join together
Blending into one

There's a time to search the meaning of
A time that is well spent
A time to let it go
And not care where it went

A time to get a grip
That some things you can't change
What other people do
Sometimes along the way

There's a time for feeling up
A time for feeling down
A time you feel you've had enough
But go it one more round

There's a time you come to realize
There always is a time
In all you say in all you do
In all the time you find

things she said
Mike Hauser Jun 2016
she said that love was dangerous
in the way it cuts to the bone
and that love wasn't meant for the both of us
best if we leave it alone

she said love doesn't really break
more like tears your heart apart
she also said love gives away
all of the very best parts

she said that love is camouflaged
hiding out deep in the weeds
and what you most expect from love
is something you'll never see

when she said that love was dangerous
all of this i should have known
that love wasn't meant for the both of us
as i find myself here all alone

~The Rhyming Word~
Mike Hauser Aug 2016
One thing that poetry

Has taught me outright

Is you can't beat the word

When it's put into rhyme

Where things may start out dull

Changing with time

Before you know

They sparkle and shine

As they weave in and out

Of poetic word play

Silver in tongue

With the gold they create

Nothing astounds

Or even comes close

As poetry sounds

In the rhyming word
