~Friendship~
Mike Hauser Dec 2014
Our friendship to me will always be
A Lighthouse standing strong
No matter how rough life's seas
Together we'll weather any storm
How ever far our travels take us
This friendship light will always shine
As it has from the beginning
Until the very end of time
I have an artist friend that painted a lighthouse picture for another friend for Christmas and I was honored when she asked if I could write a poem to go along with it.

Highly Educated
Mike Hauser Nov 2014
I consider myself highly educated
Graduated close to the top
Am a **** at today's Geography
So I can be close to where you are

And you know I've got your number
Cause Mathematics comes easy to me
And it's as easy to spell me loving you just as well
As it is spelling you loving me

So I'm reading into this all the right moves
Cause I think it's a novel idea
Having you next to me on life's playground swing
Just like a couple of kids

Sticks & Stones
Mike Hauser May 2017
I have sticks and you have stones
Mine I swing while your's you throw
You go high and I go low
Both good for breaking of the bones

Be careful of the shattered glass
From the house where we both live
Over what it was I said
Over what it was you did

I'm not sure we'll ever learn
How much our words really hurt
You're slinging mud, I'm tossing dirt
Not quite sure which one is worse

If we look hard I'm sure we'll find
That our pants are both on fire
As you go low and I go higher
Doesn't mean we're not both liars

One Heartbeat Away
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
We're only one heartbeat away from the other side
One final breath from what some call the end
One second from when darkness envelops you
But still just enough time to let the light in

Just a tick away from where you can't take it back
Where you no longer have time to make peace
Take a moment if you must to delve into that
Does that thought bring you any relief

In the final clutches of the here and now
Seconds before you fall over the wall
Into the eternity that some hold in doubt
Into what some people fear

My hope is that what you hold to is true
That your basket holds the right amount eggs
Because when all is said and done my friend
At the end there won't be any time left
I myself have found that Jesus Christ is the answer to all the questions in life as well as in death. My hope and prayer is that you find him also...before it's to late.

the righteous step
Mike Hauser Feb 2017
as I step into this world
the world in which I live
the carpet that's beneath my feet
pine needles and spongy grass slightly give

welcome me much more
than any Persian rug would dare
as freedom's taste that's ever sweet
permeates the mornings air

who could beg for eyes to see
who would dare need ears to hear
when this massive feeling afforded me
comes in oh so clear
Wrote this with much liberty off a quote from Helen Keller.
Mike Hauser Mar 2015
Why, yes that is me
Writing poetry
Weaving up and down I-95

Hey, what can I say
Besides get out of the way
If you care to arrive home alive

Don't dare honk that horn
As the perfect poem
Bounces around in my cab

With pen and paper in lap
Just be thankful that
Your not one of the sacrificial dead

Or one of the cars that I swiped
As I continue to write
Another poem that I've perfected

As I speed by in my car
Under radar
Passing State Troopers undetected

But that's the price that you pay
For great poetry
If you don't mind that being said

Don't worry though I ain't no fool
Cause I know the rules
Never would I dare drive and text...
I'm driving down the interstate on the way home writing poetry. Hey! It's a 7 hour drive and I get bored!
This just happened to come to mind...funny uh! Don't worry though I did pull over to post it....I may be crazy but I ain't stupid!

The Heart And The Head
Mike Hauser Jul 2019
You might just ask
what's the difference
Between the heart
and the head
With one we think
while the other one beats
Both contemplating what's next
While thoughts
are so often fleeting
Here one minute
gone the next
The heart never falters
at the foot of love's alter

How Much I Needed You
Mike Hauser Dec 2016
If hindsight had two eyes
To look ahead
And look behind
I'm sure then
I'd realize at

How much I needed you

Before it is
I let you go
In the passion
Of the throe
I wish then
What I now know is

How much I needed you

Before my world
Came undone
Before I learned
The meaning of true love
Before I knew
How much the cost was in

How much I needed you

Now that it all
Is different
At the very
Bitter end
All I can think of
Is back then and

How much I needed you

Gone...
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
Gone...
Everything I've ever held
Family, friends, and dreams
All that's left I can afford
The dry and empty screams

Because...
All that's left inside me now
Is the numbness of my soul
Of life's held bitter wind of change
In which I have no control

How...
Do I take this latest hit
Another bruise upon my soul

How...
Can I dig my way out of this
Deep and darkened hole

How...
Do I find the strength to climb
When this life has worn me out

How...*
Can I expect an answer
When I'm filled with so much doubt

Yes, Life is a Tragedy
A scream in the middle of being formed
How often have I begged the lonely question
*The reason I was born...
Well isn't this a happy poem! And just a poem it is although it may touch a few of you out there I pray that you don't let life get you down...
Have a nice day!

One Way Train
Mike Hauser May 2014
I bought a midnight ticket
On a one way train
Standing on the platform
In the pouring rain
These days it seems our attitudes
Are pretty much the same

I turn around for a moment
Of a wave goodbye
To catch a tear of sorrow
Glistening in your eye
Or is that just a reflection
From the station lights

Can't help but wish it'd worked out
Between the two of us
You do what you feel is right
I'll do what I must
Two lovers once in love
But never quite enough

The train roars into the station
Half a minute late
With nothing more to wait for
I don't hesitate
I step into the darkened car
With nothing more to say

At ten minutes past long gone
On that one way train
I gaze out of the window
Into the pouring rain
And watch your silent silhouette
As you walk away

Thrown Away
Mike Hauser Jun 2015
Out of everything we ever had
All I ever saved
Is the only lonely fact
That I am so afraid

All the lasting memories
That we made to this day
When it comes to love
I'm afraid I threw it all away

Not satisfied with the bird in hand
I'd rather let it fly
Than for this man to make a stand
With no easy reason why

Always lacking courage
In what I need to say
Is it any wonder
That I am so afraid

When push comes to shove
Is it done out of love
Is it done with a purpose
Is it ever done enough

Before it is this gets too late
Let me one more time explain
When it comes to love
I'm afraid I threw it all away

does anyone know
the purpose of toes
if not to give a whiff
to my turned up nose

the big ones for stumping
that and nothing more
but what in the world is up
with the other four

how many games of piggie
can a man can play
before he feels that he
gives his soul away

i know some women like
to add shiny rings
but me, the manly man that i am
would never dare such a thing

and i'm no fan of their jam
as something to eat
unless you spread peanut butter
all over both of my feet

so i guess i'll continue this quest
and wonder along
what in the world is the purpose
of all these of toes

"Life's Out To Get Me"
Mike Hauser Mar 2015
Life is stabbing me in the back
With one hand while the other one slaps
I'm not sure what to think of that
Should I cry or should I laugh

Life keeps tossing me off of the bridge
I'm getting pretty used to it
That's just the way I and life live
Been that way since we were kids

That's when it's not throwing me in front of a train
Asking those around to give it a hand
Doesn't much matter whether woman or man
Life is never too proud to beg

Of course in the city it's under the bus
Guess life thinks that a train isn't enough
While my road burns are getting calloused and tough
I always seem to keep getting up

Life even spreads nasty rumors of me
Some of what life says I find hard to believe
What really hurts is that life lives with me
So I'm always in it's company
Which makes me wonder why life's out to get me

On the face of time

Nothing Up My Sleeve
Mike Hauser Oct 2018
It's been hard to get this far
Harder to explain
How I've made it all this way
With nothing up my sleeve

No slight of hand or magic
On which to fall back on
Only these two left feet
To keep me traveling on

To stay a-light in mid-flight
Is a feat all by itself
Clinging tight to razor wire
Through the hoops of fire, I'm dealt

In my defense, if I could swim
I would dive in deep
But as it is through all of this
There's nothing up my sleeve

If I knew the sum when I signed up
I might have saved for a rainy day
But this downpour has drenched me to the core
Still, I somehow make my way

It's time I suppose the saying goes
Finder's keeper's losers weep
And you will find that I ain't lying
When I say there's still nothing up my sleeve
Mike Hauser Dec 2014
What went through your mind, oh Wondrous Creator
When as baby Jesus you let out your first cry
Did you know at that moment you were the Savior
Of this fallen world and all of mankind

Did you recognize your mother Mary
And see her as Your special child
Only you God at such tender a moment
Could give us your all at such tender a time

Did your first sight at creation astound you
As you looked through the blur of finite
From the beginning you'd always seen clearly
In the presence of your Fathers light

Did the warmth of God's Spirit surround you
As the December chill settled over the land
Were you holding the hand of the Father
In the transition from Son of God to son of man

When you heard the first bleat of the lambs
Were your thoughts on being the shepherd of man
That would lead all those gone astray
Did you already know of that day

These are questions that I tend to ponder
On the greatest gift the world's ever known
I will praise you for all of the wonder
The first Christmas that your love, my Savior was born

There's somebody out there pretending to be me
Why they're even using my face
They're doing things that I would never do
Not here, not any place

I don't have an evil twin brother
So that can't be who's to blame
Can't think of why someone or another
Would want to take a mans name

I sit here in ponder and wonder
How this is all going down
The only time he ever shows up
Is when I'm not around

You might be getting a little suspicious
I can assure you that this is true
The me you see isn't me at all
How he got to be me I haven't a clue

He goes out with all of his buddies
Then stays out till half past late
Shows up drunk on your front porch step
With a stupid grin and nothing to say

He seldom brings you flowers
Or call you all the time on the phone
Sometimes doesn't show up for dinner
Leaves you crying in the kitchen alone

I've got a fool proof way of checking
To see if the me is me, then you make the call
If the me you see says...I Love You
Then you know it's me after all

Mike Hauser Dec 2015
You'll never have the time
If you don't own up to the minute
Or recognize a lie
If you first don't see the truth
You'll never swim in this life's sea
If you don't dive head first into it
And you'll never be happy
Trying to be someone other than you

You'll never cry tears of joy
Till you've lived through the pain
And hope you'll never ever find
If you first don't learn to loose
Or learn the wrong from the right
The way things have been lately
And how in no time the new
Turns out to be the used

Things will never add up
If love's not in the equation
To tell you the truth
A point too often moot
You can tell that you still have a heart
If you can feel it aching
And you'll never really be happy
Trying to be someone other than you

If somebody told you
This is the end
And if you knew those words to be true
Would you do things different

Would you be kind to your neighbor
Call up your friends
Set a meet and greet with your enemies
To make amends

Would your main focus
Be on that last breath of life
Or would it go unnoticed
With the fact that you're dying

Would you marvel at all
The mess of debt you collect
All the now worthless stuff
That fills your life and your head

You can't take it with you
Is what they always say
So why is our grip so tight on it
All the way to the grave

If you were told that the end
Was one heartbeat away
What would that truth do to you
And would you even change

Why do we make excuses
For the times we get it wrong
Why can't we say I made a mistake
Then from that point move on

Is it that we all have swallowed
The poison pill of pride
Where we need to list our accomplishments
No matter how dark the lie

When did the pretending of perfection
Become the sea that we swim in
When did life's learning lessons
Get buried too deep to dig

When you make a mistake don't make your way
To the side of do no wrong
Tell the truth in all you do
And don't drag the excuses along

As you're keeping tabs
On all that you have
Have you ever once thought
Of giving some of it back

Will you then pay heed
To what could be your greed
And give a portion to those around
That are desperately in need

Don't make the season that we're in
The only reason for giving
Unless it is to start
A better new beginning

In a life long plan
With what you have been blessed
And what a blessing that would be
To give part of it back

~ Black Friday~
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
With the turkey out of the way
It's time to do some shop and save
Black Friday...here we go again

I am up at three o'clock
So I'll be at the door on the dot
Shopping like a mad whirlwind

Pulling up to Walmart
Grab myself a fresh shopping cart
For when the doors open up at five

Like a horse out of the gate
Your own fault for being in my way
Just count your blessings that your still alive

Beat the crowds straight to the back
For a little ****** and grab
Gotta have the newest wide screen T.V.

Blue hair had my T.V. in her cart
Took her out with a karate chop
Sorry granny it's either you or me

Next set my sights on this kid
With no clue of what he did
Or how he ended splayed out on the floor

In the remote car shopping isle
And it may take that kid awhile
To remember who, what, when, or what for

I next wildly veer off to the right
For that set of Ginsu knives
That I use to hold back the forming crowd

With it being the only set left
I Samurai it over my head
Which  quickly clears out the entire Ginsu isle

With my shopping about done
I sweep shelves into my cart on the run
Figure I can sort it all out later

At times it's hard to pick and choose
With the attitude of I hate to lose
Anyways I figure they owe me for all my labor

When I get to the front of the store
There's bookoo bunches of crowds galore
I've never seen such a long drawn out line

So I clear the path in front of me
Taking people off at the knees
They'll surely think twice the next time

Before getting in my way
And my day of shop and save
Already planning for next year my friend

Satisfied I head for the door
But I tell you not before
I turn and say Happy Holidays and Good Will Towards Men!

Cause that's just the way I am...

What's Your Worth
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
When will you find
What you're searching for
The meaning of life
Down to the core

The reason you're here
A reason to live
Been searching for meaning
Since you were a kid

The further along
The longer life drags
In all that you do
In what little you have

You'll never measure
If you're using the world
To set the standards
For all you are worth

Because the worlds standards
Are set mainly on self
Which leaves little room
For anything else

This may be hard
For some to understand
But to find your true worth
You must first lose yourself

Take all your have
And give it to God
Not in bits and pieces
But the entire lot

Then look to your worth
In Jesus Christ
Who makes it all worth
Living this life

Hey John
There is a God
He’s given a choice
And we’ve taken it wrong
If there’s any to blame
We’d be the ones
From the very beginning
Till Kingdom come

We’re always looking
For someone to blame
We wonder at love
But blunder in hate
Never owning up to
Our man made mistakes
As we easily cave
To Satans ways

Hey John
Stop blaming God
For all of the problems
That we have brought on
Like it or not
We’re all being taught
To sinfully place
The blame on God
This is in response to John Mellencamp’s new song Hey God (Great album by the way)

My kids they have big plans for me

When I leave this side for eternity

They know I'm taking with me my soul

But with the rest they're opening up a store

They're going to take and stretch my skin

And make leather furniture out of it

But not before they shave all my hair

For the making of fuzzy wuzzy underwear

They'll nail my eyeballs to the wall

So I can keep watch on the store

In case they ever need a break

Or in the morning when they're running late

The rest they'll either throw away

Or set out on the dogs dinner plate

No matter what it is they do

I'm sure they'll put me to good use

I wonder if that's why they're fattening me up

So in the end it'll boost profits
This actually came about from my kids telling me when I die they're going to make a couch out of me...I hang out in the sun a lot! Lol!

It is well worth all of that hurt
To enjoy this life style I live

Guaranteed I don't look any differently
At a glance you'd never know
I still have the smile I've had all this while
And I don't wear flamboyant clothes

I still talk with a Southern draw
Without the slightest hint of a lisp
If you're looking for a difference
You'd be hard pressed to find what it is

But I'm waving the banner proudly

The guests have all gone home
Just you and me if we are able
Once again to be alone

The emptiness that's in the silence
Grabs a hold our hearts
Wasn't it love we once relied on
Before alone came to play its part

Place the extra silverware after it's polished
Back inside the bottom drawer
We won't be needing it at all
For at least another year or more

The leftovers that we are left with
Is in not having much to say
About our missing wants and needs
With loneliness being the cutting blade

Make sure to put up all the chairs
Leaving an extra one behind
A seat where silence can sit and stare
At these lost and lonely lives

yesterday

yesterday
shows its face
using today
to make its way
where today's
much needed grace
we embrace
as memory fades
into tomorrow
doing the same
turning today
into yesterday

~She Draws The Stars~
Mike Hauser Apr 2017
She draws the stars
Late into the night
Standing in an open field
Soaking in their light
The beauty that they cast
Helps her pen to glide
When she's finished drawing
Is when she takes to flight

She draws the stars
Colors them by numbers
Throws away all diagrams
Prefers the use of different colors
Gives them all the oddest names
One after another
The furthest ones away
Names them after her ex-lovers

She draws the stars
Then gives her drawings away
To those she meets on the street
She feels needs a brighter day
She gives away the ones she loves
The rest she likes to save
Pastes them on her walls
In the galaxy she's made

wait for the beep
Mike Hauser Jun 2016
when i'm not home
i call myself on the answer phone
so when my day is through
i'll have someone to listen to

in the minute that it gave
i explain away my day
right before the beep
erases all but part of me

Enough
Mike Hauser Jun 2016
I'm ready to give it away
Turn in the key
Take this last breath
On the air that I breathe

Blow you a kiss
As I wave goodbye
In the middle of it
Wink of the eye

Give a shrug of the shoulders
Like I don't care
Go out like young lovers
On a breath of fresh air

Taking into account
Of where I have been
Leaving none of this out
A wisp on the wind

Melt away from this moment
Blow the candle out
One puff like I own it
Not making a sound

Let go of the hold
I have on myself
Add the stories I've told
But this time leave out the doubt

Give it all up
When it's all said and done
Because I've had enough
Thank you very much

~fireflies~
Mike Hauser Feb 2018
if you and i
were both fireflies
singing to the choir
light up the night
put us in a jar
by the bedside
naturally we'd be
a bright night light
you and i
would dance in time
to the flickering beat
of our tail lights
the glow serene
a wonderful sight
if you and i
were both fireflies

The Artists Poem
Mike Hauser Aug 2013
It's hard to write a poem

Without a tormented soul

When what a poet needs

Is something going wrong

It's every artists right

To find the misery in life

From the young to the old

Embrace the darkened side

Give a poet what they need

They'll cry for you a tragedy

That will strip away all of your beliefs

To the marrow bone

Open Your Heart for Love
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
If you're looking for something
That resembles loving
You've got to look deeper
Than next to nothing

Although your eyes may see
The start of the spark
If you're looking for love
You must open your heart

If you're expecting mountain tops
Or white doves let loose
I'm not exactly sure what you've got
But it sure ain't a clue

You can climb and climb
And never get close enough
If you don't open your heart
When you're looking for love

Holding tightly to something
Only fills loves one sided needs
Like the birds you'd like to fly
Never gets to spread its wings

If you're looking for answers
Don't be left in the dark
When you're looking for love
You must first open your heart
